Vouvray Les Dimes 2015 – Wine of the Week from O'Briens Wine 2

Vouvray Les Dîmes 2015 – Wine of the Week from O’Briens Wine

The ability to solve problems creatively is known as “lateral thinking”. When we look outside the patterns and the obvious answers and make a choice that might be unexpected but works, we’re thinking laterally. This applies to everything, from puzzles to high-risk decisions to the wine we serve.

Wine lovers who feel like treating themselves to a French white might be tempted to go for a delightful bottle of Chablis or Sancerre, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc respectively. Two comfortingly familiar choices made from two reliable and well known grapes. But when feeling alternative, options abound and choosing a Vouvray from the heart of the Loire Valley will certainly count as wise lateral drinking… er… thinking.

Vouvray Les Dimes 2015 – Wine of the Week from O'Briens Wine 2Vouvray Les Dimes 2015 is the type of wine that, when you taste it, makes you wonder why aren’t you drinking it more often. A 100% Chenin Blanc (the appellation’s main grape variety), that offers a flavourful yet delicate character, a people pleaser with personality.

It’s off-dry but thanks to its sharp acidity it doesn’t feel sweet, in fact it’s balanced and mouth-watering. Acacia honey is a constant, from its colour to its aromas and taste.

A pleasing combination of stone fruit and white flowers define it. Juicy nectarines, lemonade, jasmine and yellow plums are the satisfying notes of this medium-bodied white.

Delicate and lush, it’s a perfect wine to share at a picnic, and a bottle absolutely worth exploring when you feel like trying something a little bit different but not too eccentric.

If you’re looking for ideas for outdoors friendly recipes to pair it with, try clementine roast chicken tray bake, wholewheat pasta with broccoli and anchovies or green chicken enchiladas.

Vouvray Les Dimes 2015 is available at O’Briens Wine at €12.76 (on offer from €15.95).
