Sash Restaurant – One Pery Square Limerick

While on a recent trip to Limerick we decided to pop into One Pery Square, one of the finest boutique hotels in the city to see what changes had been taken in it’s restaurant since it was once known as ‘Brasserie One”. It is clear to see this charming restaurant on the first floor of the hotel could easily be missed but be assured it is well worth seeking out. The name “Sash“is a nod to the many sash windows housed within the magnificent Georgian building. One of the first things that will strike you as you walk into the room is the quirky sash window doorway, the room itself is bright and airy but with it’s recent makeover has a more cosy feel with fresh flowers and erratic mirrored walls, with a rustic feel to the unusual imprinted floors.

We arrived early on a Saturday lunchtime to a fairly empty restaurant, however within half an hour the room was a buzz with diners. We always love having a bird’s eye view of the open plan kitchen as it can give you a good insight as to what’s to come. In this case it’s a well oiled machine with head chef Freddie busily prepping with the team for the impending service. Front of house on the day was Bridette, a Limerick girl herself who’s ease and charm matched the new decor to a tee. We were seated by the window overlooking the many stunning buildings in this Georgian quarter. The entire room lends itself to a relaxed and informal atmosphere, one which is becoming increasing popular in many hotels in recent times.

We decided on a two course lunch option which is priced €25.00pp, they also have the option of a 3 course for €29.00 if your feeling really peckish. Some freshly made brown bread and sourdough were brought to the table, which is always a nice touch at lunch time. In an attempt to be a little healthy for once we opted for a Grilled Spiced Chicken Salad. Seasonal leaves, some of which are grown on site in the herb garden, grilled chicken and the most delectable little cubes of spicy chorizo generously sprinkled throughout the dish. The salad comes with a house balsamic dressing which is truly divine and dashed on any salad would instantly bring it to life.

The real highlight of the lunch was the special, recommended by Bridette, a John Dory with Scallops Risotto. Not being huge fans of risotto as so often it can disappoint we took a chance on this unusual sounding dish. This was a real show case of head chef Freddie’s talent and possibly his french influences. A flavoursome plate of sweet potato and pea, infused with saffron, this left all doubt of how fine a plate of risotto can be. The scallops and prawns only added to the heavenly flavours. This is a must try dish if you are dining at Sash !

For dessert we decided on a Blueberry and Hazelnut Tart a traditional dish with a fine bite to the pastry, yet warm and fluffy on the inside with whole blueberries melting in your mouth. The homemade vanilla ice cream, with Freddie’s own take on hundreds and thousands finished off a super lunch with a bit of fun. Two mains, one dessert and two delectable glasses of Domaine Grauzan Sauvignon Blanc came to €49.00 excluding service.

This is a Distinctive Taste we highly recommend.
