Juno bar on Dorset Street is getting a brand new sister gastropub, opening this Friday. Hera (the name comes from the Greek goddess of women, marriage, and childbirth, who was known by the Romans as Juno) promises to bring a “reimagined concept to what a local, Irish, neighbourhood Gastro pub is”, and judging from its menu, Dublin is in for a treat.
What started off as a casual craft bar from the guys behind Crudo, Achara and The Fourth Corner pub has evolved “after much soul searching” to offer a new concept of classic comfort food reimagined, with Mediterranean flavours and a welcome focus on Irish ingredients. The kitchen will be headed by Joe Smith (formerly of Bastible and As One), and the menu will deliver simple home comforts, some of which come from the founding team’s family recipes.
The menu features, snacks, ‘smalls’ and ‘bigs’
You can look forward to Grilled Delmonico ribeye, Lobster Fish pie and a chorizo scotch egg, washed down with an intriguing rendition of a Manhattan containing black tea, Valencia Island Vermouth and Connemara Peated whiskey.
Other menu highlights include the fried Taleggio with a pear & ginger mustard; Carlingford oysters with smoked butter (torched table side); pumpkin & Toonsbridge scamorza “lasagna”, hazelnut & cavalo nero pesto; cod & Nduja Kiev with a warm green pea tartar, smoked Provolone mash and burnt lemon, with sides such as yeast butter fried potatoes and two dessert options – the brown butter & miso tart with clotted cream will be hard to resist.
They have also have overhauled their wine and cocktail list showcasing some curious procurers from Ireland and further afield.
First bookings are available from this Friday December 13th, and you can see more information here.
