Dublin’s matcha culture is about to level up. The team behind Matsukawa, the acclaimed Michelin-listed sushi restaurant in Smithfield, is set to begin a new chapter. Matcha Matsukawa, a café dedicated entirely to the quiet artistry of Japan’s iconic green tea is opening September 9th in the IFSC.
The cafe will focus on tradition and ritual, serving hand-tended and pesticide-free premium Uji matcha, sourced from Kyoto.
You can expect a vibrant green hue, delicate aroma and the subtle umami that sets high-grade matcha apart

Restaurant Matsukawa emerged from the owners’ shared vision to introduce true omakase culture to Ireland, and Matcha Matsukawa will likely feel like a continuation of that philosophy. While more casual, we can expect the same precision and a similar minimalist aesthetic that lets the quality speak for itself.
While matcha’s popularity continues to grow, this new venture promises to move beyond trend and honour the deep heritage of the tea in a space designed for calm. The preparation and presentation will reflect the same care and attention central to the tea ceremony where each detail matters.
A selection of Japanese desserts will accompany the drinks, likely demonstrating the same attention to detail found in their sushi.
Though seemingly simplistic on the surface, everything is carefully considered.
Whether you’re a long-time matcha enthusiast or just getting curious, Matcha Matsukawa will invite you to slow down and savour this quiet celebration of Japanese expertise.
