Connemara’s Independent Brewing Company have brought out a Summer Ale. As have N17, they’re fierce optimistic west of the Shannon and fair play to them! I enjoyed a couple of bottles of the Independent Summer Ale over the weekend. The beer is hopped with Magnum, Citra, Amarillo and Cascade hops, but not aggressively. It’s a fruity, easy going and refreshing beer, which makes it a great Summer Ale. It goes well with food too, I had it with pulled pork, macaroni cheese and Boston baked beans and it held it’s own admirably.
A recent Galway Independent article noted the fact that Independent’s Kevin O’Hara was Aquarium manager in the Atlantaquarium in Salthill prior to opening his brewery. That’s some career change but the man definitely knows his liquids. This beer is available now from O’Brien’s and in select pubs around the country. Give one a try this week. Sláinte!
Simon Broderick aka Simon Says… You Really Should Drink This! Simon started his blog in September 2013. Since then he has built up a large audience of readers. He can also be found on Twitter. A passionate Advocate for Great beer, he set up the Athlone Beer Club in January 2014 and this has proven very popular with publicans and members alike in the Midlands. The future? Ireland’s second craft beer book perhaps! And a lot of beers.
