If you’ve always wanted to visit Asia but dread the thought of those stressful connection flights, your prayers are about to be answered.
Hong Kong’s flagship airline, Cathay Pacific, is launching a new route from Dublin to Hong Kong from next June, marking the first time Ireland will have a direct flight to the Asia-Pacific region.
The airline’s website has the route available four times a week from next June, with tickets priced at €642 for a return flight. Cathay Pacific are also going to be operating routes to Brussels and Copenhagen, further connecting Europe with Asia.
Flying into Hong Kong International Airport, this route will also give Irish travellers easier access to other destinations within the continent.
Dublin Airport’s managing director, Vincent Harrison, has described the new route as “historic”, saying: “Dublin Airport is competing for routes like this with other major European airports, so winning this new business is hugely positive news for Ireland, for foreign direct investment, for Irish exporters and for inbound tourism.”
Cathay Pacific’s CEO, Rupert Hogg, commented: “Dublin is a fantastic destination and attracts business and leisure travellers from the world over. We listened to our customers’ demands for more options and greater flexibility and have responded by building direct air links with this great city.”
