Culture Night 2023

An evening of celebration of multicultural food , international cultures and traditions of the world as experienced in Roscommon town with contributions from local community groups and residents of the new communities of Ukraine and others. Hosted by Roscommon Leader Partnership on behalf of the Ukrainian Forum Community Integration workgroup at Margaret’s Kitchen, The Walk.

Explore Dublin City The Cantonese Way, Blackrock, Co Dublin

Snowy mooncakes are a non-baked pastry originating from Hong Kong. They are a festive, sweet food Cantonese usually have at Mid-Autumn Festival.

In this three-hour workshop from 5-8pm, visitors are invited to learn to make this delicious mooncake. Through chit-chats and hands-on experience, you will definitely enjoy this fun and educational workshop, and bring home three to share with friends and family. Taught by food lover Joanne Lee, the workshop will be in both Cantonese and English.

From tutor Lee: ‘I started enjoying cooking only after my arrival in Ireland. Through trying to do different cuisines, I recall the great time in Hong Kong and hope to retain the HK taste here.’

Culture And Food Of Asturias, in Dublin City

Culture Night 2023

The Instituto Cervantes Dublin offers a vibrant programme open to all audiences and ages to enjoy Spanish culture in Ireland.

This enriching event will delve into the intricacies of Asturian cuisine, answer intriguing questions, and embark on a captivating journey through the food and culture of this unique region.

Presented by food writer Blanca Valencia, the talk aims to explore the region’s best sidrerias (cider houses), renowned restaurants, producers and food markets. It will also offer the opportunity to learn about the fascinating cheeses from the region, and the influence of dairy on the region’s delectable desserts, including the mythical rice pudding.

One of the highlights of the event will be the deconstruction of the iconic dish, fabada asturiana—a hearty bean stew infused with flavours of pork, black pudding, and saffron.

Lithuanian Traditional Cuisine And Cooking Presentation, Ballsbridge, Dublin

Culture Night 2023

The Embassy of Lithuania is excited to present an evening of traditional cuisine, music and national costumes for Culture Night in Dublin this year.

Lithuanian cuisine has a variety of interesting dishes. There are five regions in Lithuania, within which the people cook traditional dishes that differ in character and content. All regions will be presented in the evening. Guests will try various types of cured meats, cheeses, sweets, rye bread and many more different traditional foods and beverages, and experience an authentic process of baking Šakotis (Tree cake).

Šakotis is a popular Lithuanian traditional cake. Its name meaning ‘branched’, describing its distinctive shape. It is baked by painting layers of batter onto a rotating spit over the wood-burning fire in a special oven. Šakotis is one of the most loved desserts in Lithuanian celebrations, especially at weddings or other most important family gatherings.
