Leading five-star hotel in the capital, Conrad Dublin, begins a major refurbishment this week, updating the property to a sophisticated destination that is locally-inspired.
Multiple local influences, including The Iveagh Gardens and Dublin’s rich literary culture, have inspired Conrad Dublin’s renovations, which will be completed in spring of 2016.
The €8m renovation project includes a stylish new design for all guest rooms and suites, including a full makeover of the Presidential Suite, lobby area and exterior façade, in addition to new dining concepts for the restaurant, ground floor lounge and bar.
Details of Conrad Dublin’s new dining concepts will be announced over the coming weeks as executive chef Dmitry Stroykov finalises menus, which will see the introduction of a brasserie-style offering at Conrad Dublin from February.
The new, ground-floor lounge and bar will open in March, alongside the unveiling of the lobby and refurbished guest rooms and suites.
“After working extensively with our designers, we created two prototype guest rooms with beautiful fabrics, a subtle colour palette, natural oak flooring and finishes such as Herringbone wool carpets and wood panelling on the walls,” said Martin Mangan, general manager, Conrad Dublin.
The lobby redesign has been inspired by the work and vision of Ninian Niven, the architect of Iveagh Gardens. It has been designed to illustrate the beauty of the nearby Garden’s Rosarium and will feature an abundance of flora and natural, indigenous materials, which have been used to marry historical influences with a contemporary finish.
“There is a significant contrast between the old and the new here. Every guest room and suite will have its own story to tell at Conrad Dublin,” said Mangan. “Inspiration comes from all quarters – sights and sounds, people and places – so our vision is to create a storyboard that celebrates Dublin and we hope it will, in its own way, inspire“.
Other sources of inspiration for the luxury property on Earlsfort Terrace include Jonathan Swift and the magic of Gulliver’s Travels, which have been woven into every corner and will be brought to life in the ground floor lounge and bar.
