Bar 1661’s New Cocktail Bar ‘The Sackville Lounge’ to Open Next Week

Award-winning Dublin venue BAR 1661 has announced the launch of a new cocktail bar, located just off O’Connell Street. Founder Dave Mulligan’s second venture revives The Sackville Lounge on Sackville Place, which Dubliners will remember fondly as a longstanding city centre pub.

Opening its doors on Thursday 3rdApril, The Sackville Lounge promises to “bring some big city glamour back to the heart of Dublin 1”.

Guests at The Sackville Lounge can expect the same incredible standard of drinks that BAR 1661 is famous for, but with more of a focus on classic cocktails. Elevated with the best ingredients and the confidence of some of Ireland’s most skilled bartenders, the menu features 15 cocktails including three house serves, and a curated selection of beer, whiskey, wine, fizz, and snacks. There is a short non-alcoholic menu also available.

The house serves are a destination Irish Coffee; a Whiskey Highball and – of course! – a Belfast Coffee

The Irish Coffee is made with Tullamore Dew, Guinness, Kerrygold, soda bread, coffee and cream, the Whiskey Highball is with Subzero Pot Still Whiskey and soda, and the Belfast Coffee – the drink for which BAR 1661 is famous – is made with Bán Poitín, cold brew coffee, cream and nutmeg. All are priced at €12.50.

Other cocktails such as a Bloody Mary, made with Weavers Vodka, Bán Poitín, wasabi, kombu and tomato, are priced at €15, excepting a Champagne Cocktail which is made with Hennessey, brown butter, and bitters, and choice of crémant for €15 or champagne for €25.

Non-alcoholic cocktails, including an Nogroni made with Celeño Light & Zesty, pineapple, red grape and bitter, are priced at €10.

The Sackville Lounge, located at 16 Sackville place, just off O’Connell Street, is opening six years after Mulligan turned BAR 1661’s own forgotten corner of Dublin’s northside into a mecca for cocktail enthusiasts and three years after first trying to secure the new venue.

Mulligan took the address ‘16 Sackville Place’ as a sign it was meant to be part of the 1661 family

Statement black interiors create a sense of occasion and opulence, with a custom fit out by Oakheart Joinery, whom Mulligan also collaborated with for BAR 1661. It includes bespoke panelling, beautiful lighting, and a white marble bar top.

The Sackville Lounge is the bougiest hotel cocktail bar in Dublin” says Mulligan “we just don’t have any rooms. If BAR 1661 is a local cocktail bar that punches above its weight, championing poitín and all things Irish, The Sackville Lounge is us letting our hair down and having some fun, while maintaining that super high standard. It’s the place to go in town, and the reason to go back into town”.

The Sackville Lounge will open five nights a week from Thursday 3rd April. Opening hours are Tuesday to Saturday, 5pm-late (earlier day time opening hours are slated once they get settled in). There will be a DJ on Fridays and Saturday evenings, and the bar has a no reservation policy.
