Dublin’s coffee scene is incessantly buzzing and this year we have welcome a great selection of new cafes that offer more than just amazing coffee, they have lovely atmosphere, friendly staff, original concepts and of course, delicious treats.

If you’re looking for a place to get your caffeine fix, check out these 12 new places that opened their doors to coffee devotees in 2017.

BEAR MARKET, PEMBROKE STREET

Ruth and Stephen Deasy from Bear Market have been tickling coffee lovers’ taste buds since 2013 from their flagship cafe in Blackrock. This October the gang opened their fourth cafe on Pembroke Street. They serve delicious Silverskin Coffee, locally roasted in Dublin 11. Seduce your taste buds with seasonal eats and scrumptious bakes in this stylish coffee shop. Drop by Monday to Friday between 7:00 am and 4:00 pm.

9th DEGREE COFFEE, WESTMORLAND STREET

Taking its name from Dublin Barista School’s micro-roast, 9th Degree Coffee Cafe opened its doors this summer. The cafe is located in Westmoreland Street, just a few steps away from O’Connell Street.

Their coffee beans are sourced from small farmers, and locally roasted in South Anne Street by head barista and Q Grader Alin Giriada. It’s a nice spot to grab a quick flat white while roaming the busy streets of Dublin. The café opens Monday to Friday from 7:30 am to 5:00 pm.

COFFEE WORKS LUCAN

Wake Up and Smell the Fresh Coffee at these 12 New Dublin Cafes Opened in 2017

If you are in the area, Coffee Works Lucan should be on your caffeine hit list. Run by father and son duo, Tristan and Graeme Camper, this bright little gem focuses on brewing beans from local micro-roasters.

In your cup, you will find goodness roasted by Full Circle Roasters, Naas-based PS Coffee Roasters, and Baobab. As if this wasn’t enough, its food counter is abundantly stocked with delicious food from artisan producers such as The Cupcake Bloke, The Carrot Cake Lady and Arun Bakery. Coffee Works Lucan serves coffee Monday to Friday from 7:30 am to 5:00 pm, and Saturday and Sunday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.

BOCA CAFE, SPENCER DOCK

Powered by Fully Circle Roasters, Boca Cafe lives in the heart of Dublin’s Docklands on Spencer Dock. With great in-house nibbles and delish bakes from Camerino Bakery, the cafe caters to busy office folk and students from the National College of Ireland. With head barista Natalia Grabowska at the helm, you can rest assured your coffee is on point. Visit Boca Cafe Monday to Friday, from 7:30 am to 4:00 pm.

CONTAINER COFFEE, THOMAS STREET

Container Coffee is a quirky caffeinated spot on Thomas Street, just a stone’s throw away from the Guinness Storehouse.  The guys serve Cloud Picker Coffee in the good company of flavoursome sambos and fresh bakes such as coffee and walnut cakes. Their outdoor seating area is ginormous and surprisingly quiet, even though it’s located a few steps away from the bustle and hassle of the Dublin Liberties. Container Coffee is open 7 days a week, Monday to Frdayi from 7:30 am to 5:30 pm and from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm on Saturday and Sunday.

FIVE POINTS, HAROLD’S CROSS

Five Points is the brainchild of Adam Sheridan, former manager of 3FE on Grand Canal Street. It charms with delicious dishes made with fresh produce and innovative recipes and of course, great coffee. Located in a 1884 red-brick building just opposite to the local petrol station is Harold’s Cross, this blue and white cafe is a great choice for a casual weekday lunch and a sit-in filter coffee or white coffee. Five Points is open 7 days a week, Monday to Friday from 7:30 am to 5:00 pm, Saturday and Sunday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm so that you can enjoy their great brew and menu the whole week long.

FONTE COFFEE ROASTER, PARLIAMENT STREET

Fonte Coffee Roaster sprinkles the magic of a Seattle-based roaster over Parliament Street, Dublin 2. Coffee lovers can sip on single origins and blends, or try Fonte’s own tea selection. The menu includes known favourites such as Avocado on Toast as well as healthy snack boxes, the food is definitively worth checking out. With a charming greenery pocket at the back, Fonte Coffee Roaster allows you to recharge your batteries in no time. The cafe keeps its door open for the whole week, so drop by anytime (Monday and Tuesday 8:00 am to 6:00 pm, Wednesday 8:00 am to 7:00 pm, Thursday and Friday 7:30 am to 7:00 pm, Saturday 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, Sunday 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.

HAPPY OUT, DOLLYMOUNT BEACH

Similar to Container Coffee, Happy Out is a cafe nestled within a shipping container. Located in Dollymount Beach on Dublin’s Northside, the cafe marries Roasted Brown coffee and homemade toasties. Run by Karl McCullagh and Brian Hanratty, it’s the perfect spot to snack away while enjoying the sea breeze and the sunshine on Bull Island. Happy Out keeps visitors fed and caffeinated Monday to Friday from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm.

LOVE SUPREME, PORTOBELLO

Love Supreme Portobello on Lennox Street quickens the pulse of the beating heart of Dublin 8. The cafe offers Koppi Coffee, from a micro-roastery set up by the Swedish barista champion Anne Lunell and Charles Nystrand. Food-wise, they treat visitors to delectable savouries and mouth-watering pastries all made in their in-house bakery. The cafe opens Monday to Friday from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm, and Saturday to Sunday from 10:00 to 5:00 pm.

POT BELLIED PIG, RATHMINES

Rathmine’s Pot Bellied Pig’s design is delightfully fresh. The cafe is all about simple food done right. When it comes to coffee, they brew the prestigious Cloud Picker, and for tea lovers, Wall and Keogh it is. Apart from the great in-house food options, Pot Bellied Pig also offers exquisite pastries from Opera Patisserie and Arun Bakery. The cafe is open every day of the week (Monday to Friday from 7:30 am to 4:00 pm, Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm and on bank holidays.

SHAGGY DOG COFFEE TRUCK, CRUAGH

Who said you can’t find good coffee in the middle of the forest? Shaggy Dog Coffee Truck is a recycled ambulance that got turned into a mobile coffee station. Currently residing within the Cruagh Woods, , this coffee-powered machine serves Upside Coffee at weekends from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. It really offers a charming way to relax: in the national park, with Ernie the Dog, and a lovely cup of coffee.

STORYBOARD, DUBLIN 8

Storyboard is the latest addition to Dublin 8’s coffee scene. Enclosed in glass, the cafe delights visitors with an innovative yet straightforward food menu which champions local producers. In the cup, you’ll find 3FE, whose bags proudly perch on shelves across the space. This new chic food hub is open Tuesday to Friday from 7:30 am to 5:00 pm, and Saturday and Sunday from 9:00 am to 4:30 pm.
