I always await a new café with sweet anticipation. It was no different with Two Boys Brew. Spacious and bright, number 375 North Circular Road kept my curiosity on its toes from the beginning. The opening of this new caffeinated gem was preceded by delicious behind-the-scenes snaps on Instagram. What a great suspense-builder: guiding your spectators through the creative process, one photo at a time. After a few close-ups of the café’s interiors, you could definitely feel the excitement firing up Dublin’s online coffee community.
Located just a stone’s throw from John Doyle’s, Two Boys Brew welcomes visitors with its stylish black front. The interior design radiates freshness and simplicity. Pairing concrete titles with wood furniture creates a nice spacious and airy look with some industrial hints. Rows of potted plants neatly decorate the walls, with splashes of greenery here and there.
The place was buzzing. No surprise seeing as it was brunch time. Their menu was packed with amazing treats: ricotta & blueberry hotcakes, mimosas, and avocado and poached eggs, which were just a few of the choices on their menu designed to tickle the taste buds.
Although most tables were taken, we managed to find free spots in the communal seating section. I stopped at the barista’s station to order coffees; 3FE proudly serves as the house coffee, and the Man versus Machine is perching on the shelves as their first guest coffees. As Two Boys Brew are the only stockists of those beans in Ireland, I decided to try them out.
The counter was covered with freshly baked treats from White Chocolate & Salted Pretzel Blondies to Two Boys Chocolate Brownies. I just had to get something to munch on. So, I ended up with a flat white and iced latte in the company of a brownie.
Before coming back to my seat, I had a quick wander around. The guys definitely have chocolate buffs in their mind. The shop is full of the Mast Brothers chocolate bars and Loving Earth’s cocoa-powered treats – something to satisfy my sugar cravings for sure.
After a few minutes, our order arrived. I took my time with the cup, it was perfect; creamy, delicate, with no sign of tanginess or tartness.
Next stop the Two Boys Brownie. I don’t normally eat while drinking coffee but my inner cookie monster got the best of me, and I have to say, it was cookie gooeyness at its best. The dough was mouth-watering nutty and fudgy. Not too sweet and rich in flavour. The chocolate layer complimented the brownie cookie just right. It was one of those bakes that makes you crave more. I was actually surprised as chocolate seems heavy in any sun-blasting weather. This brownie, however, went down a treat.
Formerly occupied by a chicken restaurant, this Phibsborough spot has transformed into a slick coffee house with a strong foodie vibe. Thanks to their healthy nosh and delicious coffee, Two Boys Brew should be a must for any foodie.
