On Sunday September 4th 2016 the Totally Terrific Tomato Festival will make its home at Killruddery for a fabulous celebration of all things tomato! The festival is dedicated to all kinds of tomatoes – especially heirloom and open-pollinated – and the wondrous diversity they represent.

The festival will bring together a community of tomato growers, pursuing deliciousness though growing more than just your standard tomato. The highlight of the festival will be a display of as many different shapes, sizes and colours of tomato as possible. Visitors are encouraged to bring along any usual varieties that have cropped up in their own garden to join the display.

Along with that there will be competitions to suit all levels of grower and interest, including 4 classes of tomato, best costume/bonnet in a tomato theme, heaviest tomato and weirdest tomato, with some terrific prizes for the winners.

On the day there will also be speakers and demonstrations, including: Madeline McKeever on “The Secret Sex-Life of the Tomato”, Nicky Kyle (founder of the festival) on Growing & Cooking Tomatoes for Great Health, and Killruddery’s own Seamus Hogan will show you how to cook up something to impress.

Some of the regulars from Kilruddery’s Saturday Farm Market will also be at the festival, including Corleggy Cheese, and The Birds and The Teas. Le Skinny Chef will be in the garden on the day too with fun things to go with your tomatoes.

The Festival will be open to visitors from 11.30am on September 4th.

Normal Garden Entrance to Killruddery applies to visit the Festival, but participants go free.
