The Best Mother’s Day Afternoon Teas in Dublin

Mother’s Day is the perfect excuse to spoil the leading lady in your life — and what better way to celebrate than with an indulgent afternoon tea in Dublin? From elegant hotels serving up classic scones and finger sandwiches to quirky cafés offering creative sweet treats, there’s no shortage of delightful options across the city.

Whether your mum loves a glass of bubbly with her cakes or prefers a traditional tea experience, we’ve rounded up the best afternoon tea spots in Dublin to make this Mother’s Day extra special…

College Green Hotel

Sit back and relax in The Atrium Lounge, at The College Green Hotel, a haven with a magnificent five-storey-high glass ceiling. This is a
space where time seems to slow down, allowing you to savour every moment- which is exactly what your mum deserves.

The Signature Afternoon tea here includes Smoked Salmon with Cracked Black Pepper and Dill Cream Cheese on Guinness Soda with Caviar Pearls, and a tempting selection of sweet treats such as Lemon Drizzle Cake and a Caramelised White Chocolate& Coconut Cheesecake.

Served every day from 12:00 pm – 5:30 pm, for €59 per person or cheers with a glass of Perrier-Jouët Champagne for €79 per person.

The Shelbourne

Set in The Lord Mayor’s Lounge, overlooking Dublin’s iconic St Stephen’s Green, this historic drawing room has long been the location of choice for the finest Afternoon Tea in Dublin city. 

Begin your journey with a selection of perfectly brewed teas, sourced from the finest estates around the globe. Each delicately crafted finger sandwich, freshly baked scone, and irresistible pastry embodies the perfect harmony of taste and presentation. The Shelbourne is celebrating two centuries with its 200th Birthday Afternoon Tea, featuring extra special pastries inspired by recipes from the 1800s, elegantly presented on superb china and accompanied by fine teas and the most delicate of sandwiches. 

The Shelbourne Afternoon Tea is priced from €70 per person – note that it books out fast, so another alterantive could be a lovely, leisurely lunch in The Saddle Room restaurant.

The Conrad

This Mother’s Day, The Coburg at Conrad Dublin invites guests to honour and indulge the most cherished women in their lives with an exquisite Afternoon Tea experience, available for one day only on Sunday, 30th March, from 12 noon to 4 pm.

Classic flavours are reimagined with contemporary flair, from the rich and velvety Irish smoked salmon tartar to the luxuriously creamy truffle-infused egg mayonnaise, served on traditional soda bread. The chicken saffron mayonnaise with mango brings a subtle warmth, perfectly complementing the elegantly layered basil sponge with strawberry and white chocolate ganache, while the Fromage blanc mousse with calamansi curd offers a vibrant citrus twist.

Priced at €50 per person for afternoon tea and €65 per person including a glass of champagne.

The Merrion

Afternoon Tea in the Merrion’s beautiful Georgian Drawing Rooms, surrounded by the hotel’s collection of art and antiques, is sure to be a festive occasion to remember. Sink into one of the plush sofas and sit back in the comfort of knowing you don’t have to life a finger all afternoon.

The Merrion’s signature ‘Art Tea’ is one of the most beautiful afternoon teas in Dublin. Treat yourself to a slice of 19th- or 20th-century art served on fine china with miniature sweet creations inspired by the work of J.B Yeats, William Scott, Louis Le Brocquy and others, while you flick through a complimentary copy of The Merrion art collection catalogue.

The Art Tea is priced at €68 per person, or €88 per person with a glass of champagne.

This year, The Merrion is also doing a special Mother’s Day afternoon tea to takeaway – it costs €55 and requires 48 hours advance ordering by calling 01 603 0608.

Vintage Tea Trips

Experience afternoon tea with a difference on Vintage Tea Trips. Hop on board a fully restored 1960s vintage Routemaster double decker bus and be transported back in time where social media was non-existent and chats over tea reigned supreme. You’ll embark on a city sightseeing tour of Dublin all the while indulging in afternoon tea and listening to the Irish art of storytelling with a semi-guided tour.

Indulge in a full afternoon tea spread of freshly made sandwiches, warm fruit scones with all the trimmings and of course delectable desserts. 

The tour takes between 70-80 minutes and costs €55 per person.

The Westbury

Enjoy views over Grafton Street as you sample an enticing selection of sandwiches, scones, and divine homemade pastries at The Westbury – you can’t go wrong with afternoon tea here (and perhaps a cocktail afterwards in the Sidecar bar!).

Try fragrant teas from all over the globe served in delicate silver teapots; and for a particularly indulgent experience, savour a glass of Charles Heidsieck Rosé Réserve NV from their hugely popular Champagne trolley.

The menu includes classic finger sandwiches and sweet treats such as a Matcha tea flavoured Jocende sponge cake layered with white
chocolate feuilletine, raspberry compote, matcha & raspberry mousse.

The Westbury afternoon tea costs €75 or €98 with a glass of Champagne.

Powerscourt Hotel & Spa

Just a short drive away from Dublin, the Powerscourt Hotel allows for a few hours of bliss away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Gaze upon picturesque views of the Sugar Loaf Mountain from their aptly named Sugar Loaf lounge, where you’ll be served dainty treats, sweets and savouries and some of the finest teas to pair with your bites. 

Enjoy a mouthwatering array of sandwiches, freshly made scones and delicious homemade pastries accompanied by your choice of tea or coffee. And if you want to really spoil yourself, why not indulge in a glass of Perrier-Jouët champagne as well?

The Cake Café

The Cake Café is a charming little secret tucked away off of Camden Street, and offers one of the best value afternoon teas in Dublin. It comprises of a glass of Prosecco followed by a selection of mini sandwiches made on freshly baked breads.

You can then enjoy a selection of mini cakes of the day with a freshly brewed tea or coffee of your choice. There’s a beautiful leafy courtyard with outdoor seating if the weather is nice, and it feels like a true oasis in the city.

Afternoon tea at The Cake Café is priced at just €40 per person.
