Opening its doors last week, O’Neill Coffee is the latest addition to the West Cork town of Skibbereen. Located at 64 Townshend Street, across the street from the Ludgate Hub, the new coffee shop takes over the much-loved Mrs O’Neill’s Grocery Shop.

The cafe has retained the charming original black ‘O’Neill’ signage and red and white shopfront, discreetly adding their modern sign above the door to create a unique juxtaposition of old and new.

Aiming to use and support as many local producers and suppliers as possible, of course it was a natural choice for O’Neill Coffee to source beans from coffee roaster West Cork Coffee, a local roastery at The Old Forge in Innishannon.

Along with speciality coffee the cafe serves a selection of sweet and savory treats, and within the minimally designed space there’s coffee table books for your to peruse at your leisure.

The cafe also stocks a multicoloured selection of Keep Cups, a leading reusable coffee cup brand, and follow this up with an offer to get 10 cent back on your coffee every time you present a reusable cup – every little helps for both environment and your pocket!

Speaking to The Southern Star Colm Crowley of O’Neill Coffee: “People are looking for better quality coffee and O’Neill Coffee wants to meet that demand, all while using local producers and suppliers.”

“Locally, people are being offered quality coffee and with the likes of Tony Speight at West Cork Coffee they can enjoy coffee that has been roasted here locally. People will also get to enjoy sweet and savoury treats here with their take away/sit in flat white or cup of tea.”
