Get closer to the sea this weekend with SeaFest 2017, taking place in Galway from Friday June 30th to Sunday July 2nd.
More than 80,000 people are expected to descend on the city of tribes to experience all Galway has to offer, from free family events to a Bord Bia Seafood Experience.
A number of sea-related activities will be taking place over the weekend, including vessel tours and kayaking.
There’ll also be some impressive shows to delight SeaFest audiences, from flyboarders and Seafarers to a Defence Forces Display. The Coast Guard and Irish Sailing Association will also be giving demonstrations.
Speaking to The Galway Independent, festival chairman Dr John Killeen said: “Seafest has generated enormous interest at home and abroad establishing itself as a global leader in ocean research and the biggest family friendly free festival of its kind in the country this year.
With the level of hotel and restaurant bookings we are seeing, we estimate that the maritime festival based around the harbour and the ocean summit at NUI Galway will be worth at least €5 million in direct income and many times more in indirect spending.”
Festival organisers have also said that many of Galway’s hotels are already booked out for the maritime event, which is expected to attract between 80,000 and 100,000 visitors.
