Romeo & Juliet Passimento White 2015 embodies everything Valentine’s is about. Dedicated to Verona, this off-dry white from the Veneto shares one of the world’s most famous love stories, the tale of Giulietta e Romeo, who in fact didn’t live too far from the vineyard in the north of Italy.
At a moderate 13%, the delicate sweetness brought to the wine by the use of a portion of partially dried Garganega grapes feels like a warm welcome to what soon becomes a seductive blend of limoncello, eldelflower and poached pears.
A kiss between the juice and the grape’s skins -ok, not a kiss, maceration- gives the wine a fuller body and a pleasant juiciness. A hug of French oak -or maturation, for the cynics- adds to its complexity and grants us with a very subtle nutty character. What to serve it with?
