A new wine named Progrigio has been created to offer a budget friendly sparkling alternative to Prosecco, which is expected to increase in price in the UK as Brexit develops.
The bubbly is a blend of Prosecco -the Italian fizz made from Glera grapes- and Pinot Grigio, a variety known to produce affordable and uncomplicated wines.
Progrigio was launched this week by British supermarket chain Asda, and it’s priced at £5 (€5.84). It has an ABV of 11%, it’s made in a dry style and is described as “crisp, fresh and delicately floral.”
While the mix doesn’t necessarily sounds like it’s going to overthrow Champagne anytime soon, it comes at a time in which the average price for a bottle of Prosecco in a supermarket ranges between £6 and £12 and it’s only expected to go up.
So, Progrigio, Yay or nay? Is this a welcomed innovation that will bring bubbles at a lower price point or an abomination bound to be the king of basic?
