Press Up to Open New Asian Restaurant Inspired by Cuisines of the Philippines, China & India

Since Wagamama closed in September of this year, we were wondering what would happen to the expansive restaurant space on Dublin’s South King St. It has now been announced that a new ‘upscale Asian’ restaurant is to open on Friday 22nd November in the re-designed venue.

Press Up hospitality group will launch Kaldero, which is “inspired by the bold and vibrant culinary traditions of the Philippines, China and India’, with a menu that has been crafted by three acclaimed chefs: Richie Castillo (from much-loved Filipino pop-up Bahay), Daren Liew, & Alfred Prasad, India’s youngest chef awarded a Michelin star.

The menu will consist of small plates, sharing-sized mains and sides, with sample dishes to enjoy including grilled scallops in the shell with fermented black bean chilli butter; Laksa beef rib, crispy sushi rice with tuna and jalapeno and masala-spiced fries.

For drinks, the menu features a selection of cocktails designed to “complement the flavours” of the food, with Asian twists on classics such as the Masala Mango Sour, Tamarind Old Fashioned and Ube Colada.

Interiors are described as being warm and inviting, with timber and terracotta throughout. Music is set to be an integral part of Kaldero, curated by Uly, an Irish-Filipino musician renowned for blending neo-soul, R&B, and indie-pop.

Press Up, which currently operates more than 15 venues across Ireland, was recently taken over by Cheyne Capital, a UK-based investment firm.

Another new as-of-yet unannounced restaurant is tipped to open in Blanchardstown in the coming weeks.
