Anthony Gray Revive Northwest co-founder on the Sligo Food Trail

RAI President, Anthony Gray, to Lead Revive Northwest March on the Dail this February

President of the RAI, Anthony Gray, is set to front a march organised by Sligo based action group Revive Northwest on Dail Eireann this February.

Anthony is a co-founder of Revive Northwest, a group in the Northwest of Ireland who are seeking a motorway system to connect Sligo to Dublin and the Northwest to the Southwest.

The action group believes this infrastructure will benefit the industrial and tourism sectors in the Northwest and West of Ireland. The march is being promoted as positive protest highlighting some of the problems which are restricting growth in the region.

The March will take place on 8th of February 2017 at 3pm at Leinster House.

Revive Northwest co-founder, Anthony Gray said: “In recent years Sligo, like many areas in the region, has made massive ground as a wonderful tourism destination and tourism continues to grow with adventure activities, a vibrant night life, fantastic music and our love of poetry. We know we can hold massive events such as Fleadh Cheoíl na Éireann and we are also now recognised as the foodie and culinary destination of the Northwest.”

“In addition, Sligo is now the volunteering capital for 2017 which is a massive achievement but unfortunately we are certainly being held back by the central government by the fact that our infrastructure is not what it should be. The CSO figures also show we are declining as a county and show we are not getting investment and our job growth is stagnant. Sadly, this situation is all too common for other areas in the region. This is an invitation to join us and other like minded people to push for continued growth in Sligo and the Northwest and Western region.”

Supporters of the campaign can also sign the petition at www.gopetition.com/petitions/get-a-motorway-for-the-northwest-of-ireland

For those interested, a group will travel on the 11am train from Sligo station and all are welcome. For more details contact revivenorthwest@gmail.com.
