September is a wonderful time for many reasons – the kids are back to school, cosy autumn evenings are upon us and of course, it is also oyster season!
Love them or hate them, there is something imminently opulent about a dozen oysters, simply shucked and served with a side of chilled Champagne. With this luxurious ritual in mind, where better to indulge than one of Ireland’s most exclusive venues, the magnificent Ashford Castle in Cong, Co. Mayo.
It is well worth making the journey to the West on September 23rd, when Cullen’s at The Cottage at Ashford Castle will host a live Pop-Up for the day with Dooncastle Oysters and Lanson Champagne.
There will be tastings and live demonstrations of how to prepare and enjoy the delicious bivalves from the Dooncastle experts, renowned for their delicious Connemara oysters from 12.30pm to 5pm.
On the entertainment front, as well as plenty of oyster showmanship there will also be live traditional music from The Molloy Brothers. Top this all off with plenty of Lanson Champagne to toast to a wonderful celebration of one of Ireland’s finest sea treasures and you have the perfect day out for oyster lovers!
