From the team that brought you Sprezzatura comes Flâneur Dublin, a Parisian style sister offering with French ideas using the best locally sourced Irish produce. Located in Rathmines, next to Sprezzatura, Flâneur invites customers to slow down and welcome the return of traditional dining at affordable prices.
Directly translating as, ‘Flâneur: A French term for an urban wanderer who strolls almost aimlessly through a city, observing and experiencing the surroundings as a visual spectacle and source of inspiration’, the restaurant seeks to embody this very sensibility with a menu designed for ongoing exploration over time, collecting new favourites at every visit. This is a carefully considered menu that strives to stand the test of time.
Certain to become a Dublin mainstay, Flâneur will be an appreciative nod to the world’s first restaurants, boasting dine-in only beautiful plates and an impressive array of champagne and wine, both bottled and on tap.
Speaking of the launch, restaurateur Thom Lawson said, “With my history in pop ups and short term restaurants and the ever changing nature of the Sprezzatura menu, I wanted to create something classic. Something still, yet exciting. At Flâneur, there will be no food porn and no drama. I wanted to create something that would sit in the back of your mind, and solo or with friends you’d go on a whim on a rainy Tuesday evening.’’
Plates to start include Duck Rillettes with Orange Oil, French classic Steak Tartare with Greens Yolks and Scallop Gratin. Mains are equally as delectable with Ratatouille and Couscous, Veal Escalope and Gnocchi Parisienne served in a Herb Butter and Fillet Steak with Pepper, all appearing on the menu. Steak Tournedos Rossini using an ethically made alternative to Foie Gras meaning no animal cruelty, is also a welcomed addition. Sides of Potato Dauphinoise and Creamed Spinach complete the savoury element of the gastronomic experience.
Those who have a penchant for french bistro cuisine will be equally enamoured by the desserts of Crème Brûlée, Chocolate Fondant and Single Origin Chocolate Fondue with Fresh Madeleines.
Each week will see a daily special available for €14.95 from 12 noon until 10pm as well as a Prix Fixe with Entrecôte with Frites alongside Café de Paris sauce each Tuesday, Moules Frite au Curry on Wednesdays and on Thursdays, Lobster Frites in a Lemon Butter sauce each costing €24.95 with dessert and a glass of house wine. With live Jazz Mondays with Charlie Moon Duo and weekend brunches promised, there is much to look forward to with the South side’s latest addition.
Taking up residence at 223 Lower Rathmines Road next to Ireland’s oldest bollard, Flâneur will open to the public from Friday, March 10th. For more information and bookings, visit flaneur.ie and keep up to date with the latest news via their social media @flaneurdublin
