While you may already be salivating at the thought of a warm and buttered, spiced and sticky-sweet, hot cross bun, this Easter M&S have introduced a savoury hot cross bun range that might just tempt you to cheat on your sweet bun tradition.
M&S Hot Cross Bun Product Developer, Sadia Usman, commented: “This year’s trends are about mixing sweet with savoury, which is where the inspiration for our Savoury Cheese Hot Cross Buns comes from. Another new flavour is our combination of carrot cake and hot cross bun, which was inspired by the recent hybrid trend seen in baking.”
The upmarket supermarket have introduced three new, sweet and savoury, ways to tuck into these delicious bakes.
If you like a fruity bun, try the new Cranberry and Orange Hot Cross Buns, made with cranberries, raisins, citrus peel and pumpkin seeds – the leftovers buns make for a tasty French toast.
Still sticking to the traditional sticky sweet flavourings, there’s also a new limited edition spiced Carrot Cake Hot Cross Buns, that reminiscent of their namesake comes with a sweet cream cheese filling.
Perfect to enjoy toasted and buttered with soup, the new Savoury Cheese Hot Cross Buns are baked with a blend of two cheeses, sultanas, onions and chives, with spices, plus a Brewer’s Paste-flavoured cross.
All three new additions to the M&S Hot Cross Buns range are available for a limited edition in-store priced at €2.70 for four.
