The K Club’s rich history is inextricably linked to wine, it is therefore inevitable that the pièce de resistance of the drinks event series culminates with an incredibly special wine experience.
The ‘lord of wine’ Hugh Barton of the famous 2nd Grand Cru Classé classified estate Château Léoville Barton, became one of the resort’s original renegades in the 1800s when he fled the Reign of Terror in France to his ancestral home of Ireland and took residence in Straffan House. The property remained the family home for generations until eventually being sold in 1949.
Whilst the ownership of the house (which now forms the East Wing of the hotel as we know it today) has changed, The K Club’s link with the Barton family continues to run deep within its foundations, where you’ll also incidentally find its original wine cellar!.
This November, Lillian Barton who is ninth-generation of the Bordeaux wine dynasty, is returning to one of the most important addresses in her family’s long legacy to host this exclusive evening alongside The K Club’s very own Head Sommelier (and long-time friend) Lisa O’Doherty.
A Champagne reception in the Garden Room will be followed by a five course gala dinner from The Barton restaurant’s talented chefs, with each dish expertly matched with stunning Château Léoville Barton wines. Lillian – whose late father Sir Anthony Barton was the last Barton to be born at The K Club – will also be bringing an exclusive wine from her very own sought-after cellar to pair with the course of her choosing.
This rare and exclusive event is expected to sell out incredibly quickly. Tickets are available for €295 per person or dinner guests can avail of a special accommodation package which includes tickets to the dinner, luxurious overnight accommodation and breakfast the following morning for €395 per person sharing. What’s more, the first 10 people to purchase room packages will enjoy an exclusive complimentary masterclass with Lillian in The K Club’s wine cellar before the dinner.
