Organic farm produce, wood-fired pizza, food stalls and sparkling Christmas lights… The annual Christmas market at Killruddery House – a 17th-century estate on 800 acres – in Wicklow ticks all our festive boxes.
Killruddery Christmas Farm Market will be open in Killruddery Yard from Friday, 29th November, featuring 40 charming stalls with food, crafts, jewellery and more every Saturday and Sunday from 10am-5.30pm.
Killruddery is a working farm that produces free range meat, fruit and vegetables for Killruddery’s own kitchen and Farm Shop, making this the perfect day out for any food lover.
There’s chemical free seasonal vegetables grown in Killruddery’s Victorian Walled Garden, organic fruit and vegetables from An Tairseach and lots of food stalls, such as sweet & savoury crepes from The Crepe Box or locally sourced street food from What the Falafel. Hot chocolate and mulled wine will also be available.
The market also has a wood-fired pizza oven shed
The Pizza Shed is open from Wednesday-Sunday and serves pizza made using only the best local ingredients, many of which are produced within the estate’s 800 acres and Walled Garden, including Killruddery lamb and pork, kale, and wild garlic.
After you’ve browsed the market stalls pop into the Farm Shop
You can get traditional Christmas cakes and mince pies, order organic turkey and ham and even choose a Christmas Tree!
There’s also a Seasonal Supper Club, a four-course feast inspired by the seasons, designed by Head Chef Niall O’Sullivan. Set in the historic Grain Store with a roaring log fire, this event will be held on select dates in November and December, offering a “festive atmosphere and farm-to-table cuisine”, with craft beer, botanical cocktails and wine.
For little ones, Killruddery also hosts the Broken Theatre Christmas Circus this year for the first time with an exciting retelling of Hans Christian Andersen’s The Snow Queen. Additional events will take place over the season including Christmas Wreath Workshops, led by Killruddery Cut Flowers, where Fionnuala Brabazon and Florist Hanka Miziova will lead participants in creating a handmade wreath.
We can’t think of a better way to kickstart the Christmas market season…
