KeepCup is Embracing Reuse Month to Inspire Coffee Lovers to Reduce Waste

October is Reuse Month, an initiative launched by the Regional Authorities (@CRNIIreland) to create awareness about the need to reduce waste. Reusable cup company Keepcup has embraced the campaign and is encouraging coffee and tea lovers to ditch the disposable cups and swap for a bright and colorful KeepCup.

Denis Naughten, Minister for Communication, Climate Action and Environment, commented on the importance of our everyday choices to help the environment: “In a modern society, where everything is available, all year round and at every price point, we need to think about how we can live within the capacity of our planet in terms of the Earth’s materials we consume and the waste we must manage – why use disposable cups when reusable cups are available? A number of creative initiatives, (such as the Conscious Cup Campaign) are already underway to support café owners and customers in moving to a more sustainable lifestyle.  Changing our ways is easier than ever.”

If you swap your dispossable cup to a reusable one such as Keepcup, it will take you only 15 uses to make a difference: Canadian chemist, Dr Martin Hocking’s research found the break-even energy requirement to manufacture a reusable plastic cup versus a paper cup over a lifetime use was under 15 uses.

KeepCup, an Australian brand developed by sister and brother team Abigail and Jamie Forsyth, who were appalled by the waste resulting from their Melbourne based café.

Abigail Forsyth CEO at KeepCup commented: “We took a huge gamble that usability and aesthetics were the key reasons for poor take up of reusables as an alternative to disposable cups. Our café experience was invaluable in providing input to make the KeepCup work behind the coffee machine as well as for the user. People purchase KeepCups because they love the way they look and feel, and continue doing so because they form a positive habit. For many of our customers it has been the beginning of a journey to reduce the consequences of convenience behavior. Feel good. Do good.”

KeepCup reusable cups come in variety of sizes, colours, materials and designs and are available in selected retailers and online.
