South County Dublin welcomes the opening this week of Eleven Dublin, an exciting new restaurant in Loughlinstown on the Bray Road, also known as the N11, which inspired the name. The large first floor above the landmark ‘Whelehan’s Wines’ has been transformed, with warmth and a welcoming character created by a series of defined dining spaces, making it an ideal neighbourhood dining destination, from day to night.
A 45 seater dining room ranges across the light filled front room, while a large zinc topped bar offers more casual seating for up to 20 people. There is also an area with high top tables which can seat another 30 diners. By this summer, the expansive terrace to the rear of the building will become a sunny al fresco option, sure to be popular!
Eleven Dublin is open from Wednesday to Saturday from 5pm for dinner, with lunch from 12pm coming soon. Saturdays will offer a brunch from 11am and Sundays is daytime dining only. Eleven is far from formal. It’s ideal for dropping in and enjoying a few small plates at the bar, lingering after your lunch or dinner, or just exploring the cocktail menu, all against the background of live blues music. Indulge in ‘Oyster Happy Hour’ weekdays from 5pm to 7pm, with €2 oysters, and €2 off the extensive cocktail list, featuring many Eleven exclusives.
At the heart of Eleven, and its menu, is a Wood Burning Grill. But there’s much more on offer than perfectly grilled meats and seafoods. The food ethos is to serve the best and freshest ingredients, simply prepared and served. With Small Plates, Mains and Grilled Dishes through to Sharing Platters and Sunday Roasts, there’s something for everyone, no matter your palate or preferences (https://elevendublin.ie/menus.pdf)
Six Small Plates set the scene for what’s to follow. Among them, Achill Oysters served natural, or with lovage vinegar and cucumber (6/12 €17/€33) and Charred Prawns with lardo, bisque and sorrel (€15). Mains (from €24) include Handmade Pasta, alfredo, confit egg yolk, truffle, and BBQ Monkfish with bonito butter, white asparagus and lovage.
From the Wood Burning Grill (from €27) choose your dish and pick a side to accompany; Grilled Prawns, Seared Tuna Steak, Rib Eye and Striploin, with the meat from Creekstone (USDA) or John Stone Farms. You’re spoiled for choice with the Sides (€6); House Fries, BBQ Carrots, Hegarty’s Cheddar Whey, Charred Hispi Cabbage with Bacon & Kombu, Watercress Salad Apple Vinaigrette, Smokey Beans, Mash & Bone Marrow Butter.
For Sharing, served with two sides, go lighter with Dover Sole with sea buckthorn, olives and tomato (€65) to Côte de Boeuf (€78), Chateaubriand (€110) or a Tomahawk (POA).
Sundays at Eleven are devoted to roasts, (from €23) with a choice of the very best Beef Striploin, Corn Fed Chicken, Free Range Pork Rack and steaks, all served with their sauces and with Yorkshire Pudding, Duck Fat Roasties, Gravy, Stuffing, Carrots & Hispi Cabbage. Start with Side Plates, graze through the sides, but make sure to finish with the Sauternes Crème Caramel with soaked raisins (€9). (Sittings at 12pm, 2pm, & 4pm. No dinner service)
Eleven Dublin is set to corner the market on long and convivial lunches from Wednesday to Friday, as there is the option for diners to browse through Whelehan’s Wines’ huge selection and pay just €10 corkage on their choice. Eleven has a full bar, exciting cocktails and a wine list that ranges from €9 a glass to €600 a bottle, encompassing Red, Rosé, Sparkling, White, Magnums and Specials.
With its striking setting, charming service and real passion for excellent food, Eleven is sure to attract diners from any distance, as well as being the neighbourhood restaurant anyone would wish to have in their locale.
