Airbnb is planning to launch a new luxury rental service for mega-homes, mansions and penthouses. This is nearly too much luxury for a Monday morning.

This luxurious new offering will begin testing in some markets at the end of the year.

According to Bloomberg, if the initial tests are successful, the service will be rolled out, however, Airbnb have declined to comment on the news.

This new level of accommodation would be much fancier than the average Airbnb style of accommodation, with penthouses instead of apartments, and mansions instead of family homes.

This new service is known internally as “Airbnb Lux“, however, an official name has not yet been determined.

“Airbnb Lux” reportedly follows the company’s acquisition of Luxury Retreats, a Canadian company that had listed more than 4,000 villas and vacation homes prior to its sale.

All of these listings are not yet features on Airbnb’s website, so it is thought they will form part of “Airbnb Lux”.

A luxury tier of rentals would be a great source of income for Airbnb, as they take a percentage of the cost of each booking.

High-end rentals also enables Airbnb to target clientele willing to pay for expensive luxury accommodation. It’ll be exciting to see how this venture takes off. We might have to attempt to book into a penthouse now!
