Asia Market – Ireland’s Premier Asian Supermarket since 1981 – has announced a month-long sensory showcase of Malaysian cuisine throughout May. This includes hosting a free ‘Taste of Malaysia’ Street Food Experience at its flagship Drury Street (Dublin 2) store on Saturday 14th May, headlined by charismatic Chef, Marcus O’Laoire.
The showcase of Malaysian food at Asia Market has been organised by MATRADE – the National Trade Promotion Agency of Malaysia – with the support of the Malaysian Embassy. Malaysian cuisine is the epitome of exciting fusion cooking, comprising an intriguing melting pot of flavours, ingredients and techniques that have been influenced by a myriad of culinary traditions – namely Malay, Chinese and Indian.
Through a series of free cookery demos and recipes, complimentary tastings and special month-long promotional offers, ‘Taste of Malaysia’ will introduce food lovers to a selection of Malaysia’s national dishes – Nasi Lemak, Laksa, Rendang Curry, Nasi Goreng, and Sambal – and show them how simple they are to cook.
On Saturday 14th May, exuberant street food aficionado, Marcus O’Laoire, will drum up a crowd outside Asia Market’s Drury Street (Dublin 2) store and deliver a free Malaysian-themed cookery demonstration packed with personality. From 1.30pm onwards he’ll highlight a range of Malaysian ingredients, using them to illustrate just how easy it is to rustle up a quick and tasty traditional Nasi Goreng fried rice. Interested onlookers will be given the opportunity to interact with Marcus while also enjoying complimentary tastings of this and other fragrant Malaysian street food dishes.
Later in the afternoon (3pm), celebrated Malaysian Chef & TV regular, Shamzuri (‘Sham’) Hanifa, of The Cottage Restaurant in Carrick-On-Shannon, Co. Leitrim will be cooking live in-store in Asia Market on Drury Street, showcasing another of his nation’s most iconic dishes – a Rendang Curry. Those watching on will get the chance to learn all about traditional Malaysian flavours and be given complimentary samples of Sham’s spicy signature creation and other bites to try.
Commenting on Asia Market’s ‘Taste of Malaysia’ Showcase, the company’s Commercial Director, Eva Pau, said: “We are excited to be launching ‘Taste of Malaysia’ at Asia Market in May and introducing the flavours of Malaysia to everyone. It’s an opportunity to come along and taste some authentic Malaysian food, learn about the ingredients from our talented Chefs, and how to recreate simple flavoursome Malaysian dishes at home.”
As part of the ‘Taste of Malaysia’ Showcase, Asia Market will be promoting more than twenty different Malaysian food brands that it stocks including Maggi, Dollee, Baba’s, Adabi, My Kuali, F&N, A1, Yee Hup, Chek Hup, Vit’s, Win Win, and many more.
A series of special offers and free easy-to-follow online recipes, accessible by scanning QR codes in-store, will entice Asian food fanatics to recreate their own versions of authentic dishes such as Laksa, Nasi Lemak, Nasi Goreng, Rendang Curry and Sambal at home.
These one-off discounts will run across both of their stores (Drury Street, Dublin 2 and Ballymount, Dublin 12) and online at www.asiamarket.ie (offering nationwide delivery), which will have a dedicated ‘Taste of Malaysia’ page, from 1st May to 31st May. The promotions will span everything from curry pastes and sauces to snacks and seasonings.
The Drury Street (Dublin 2) store is open 7 days a week, 10am to 7pm and the Ballymount (Dublin 12) store is also open all week long; Monday to Saturday, 9am to 6pm, and 10am to 6pm on Sundays.
Anyone shopping for Malaysian food in either of Asia Market’s stores on Drury Street (Dublin 2) or in Ballymount (Dublin 12) on Saturday 14th May will automatically be entered into a ‘Taste of Malaysia’ Giveaway. One lucky winner will be selected at random, taking home a hamper packed full of Asia Market’s Malaysian food range. Terms & Conditions apply.
Those who prefer to grab a takeaway rather than cooking up a fakeaway will be pleased to hear that Asia Market’s Hong Kong-style restaurant, Duck, on Fade Street has added two new Malaysian-inspired street food dishes to its menu. For the month of May, Chicken Satay Skewers with a Peanut Dipping Sauce and an authentic Malaysian Chicken Curry will both be available to order in the restaurant or online at www.duck.ie for takeaway or delivery within Dublin city centre via Deliveroo and Uber Eats.
