24 Hours in Limerick – The Best Places to Eat, Drink and Sleep

Limerick is a vibrant city in the west of Ireland. From historical sites like King John’s Castle and St Mary’s Cathedral to family activities in People’s Park and Thomond Park, there’s more to Limerick than meets the eye.

The city is easy to reach from the nearby Shannon airport and with plenty to do, odds are you’re going to get hungry. Read on to discover the best places to eat, drink and sleep in Limerick.

BREAKFAST AND COFFEE

Number 13 The Factory

The Factory Café is a vibrant new coffee experience in Limerick. located in Castletroy, The Factory Café Treats guests to simple and nutritious food paired with exceptional coffee. Its Instagram-worthy menu includes delicious breakfast treats like Salmon Toast, Banana Toast, Acai Bowl, Avocado Smash and Granola.

House Limerick

One of Limerick’s newest dining venues, House Limerick serves a mean breakfast and an irresistible brunch at the weekend. It’s the brainchild of Alan Clancy, who also runs House Dublin on Leeson Street and the hugely popular 37 Dawson Street. House Limerick serves breakfast from 9am to 12 noon daily, with brunch being served from 2pm-4pm on Saturdays and Sundays.

The Buttery

Since opening its doors in 2014, The Buttery has been producing a range of “wacky, fun and delicious” dishes. Owned by brother and sister team, Hazel and Joe, The Buttery serves breakfast, lunch, dinner and drinks. The morning menu caters to the egg lover in all of us, from the classic Eggs Benedict to eggs with chicken, chorizo, vegetables and much more.  Breakfast is served every Monday to Friday from 8am to 11.50am.

LUNCH

The French Table

Enjoy delicious French cuisine and a relaxed atmosphere in city centre restaurant, The French Table. With a mix of classic and seasonal French dishes, the restaurant works with a number of artisan suppliers to ensure their food is of the utmost quality. Chef Thomas Fialons aims to give guests the “freshest of ingredients straight from the farm to the kitchen”, so you can be sure of a high-quality lunch.

Hook and Ladder

Hook and Ladder is a café, cookery school and homeware store with locations in both Waterford and Limerick. In the Limerick café, visitors can expect to enjoy excellent artisan food suitable for all palates. Their in-store bakery provides a number of home-baked cakes as well as a wide variety of premium coffees and oenophiles will encounter an assortment of fine wines to choose from, ideal for those in search of a more relaxed lunch.

Cornstore

Cornstore offers a casual, warm and lively dining experience, complete with an impressive wine and cocktail bar. Specialising in great steaks and quality locally sourced seafood, Cornstore is the perfect spot for lunch with friends, family or work colleagues. So whether you visit Cornstore for lunch, dinner or to taste their unique cocktails, you can be sure of a good time.

DINNER

The Mustard Seed

You’ll find The Mustard Seed Restaurant in Echo Lodge, right in the heart of county Limerick. Under the ownership of John Edward Joyce, the restaurant is a flourishing fine dining experience, offering a four-course table D’hote menu with carefully selected seasonal ingredients prepared by Head Chef Angel Pirev.

The Mustard Seed attracts numerous food and drinks lovers, whether they’re staying in the lodge or not. The four-course classic dinner menu is served from 7pm to 9.15pm each evening and it’s priced at €62 per person.

La Cucina

With two Limerick locations (city centre and Castleroy), La Cucina aims to bring the authentic Italian dining experience Limerick’s food scene. For dinner, indulge in the rich variety of mouthwatering Italian food on offer at La Cucina, including bruschetta, pasta, pizzas, steak and fish. Serving lunch, dinner and the all-important coffee, La Cucina is the perfect place in Limerick to get a real taste of Italy.

Freddy’s Bistro

Located in a beautifully restored 19th-century building, Freddy’s Bistro serves superb locally sourced fresh food and a wide variety of homemade desserts. Run by three sisters – Liz, Caroline and Maeve – Freddy’s Bistro was voted the Best Restaurant in Limerick by E.W.M.C.S for their excellent standards of food, ambience and service.

They’ve also been voted one of the top one hundred best restaurants in Ireland by The Bridgestone Guide. Dinner at Freddy’s Bistro is served from Tuesday to Thursday from 7pm and from 6.30pm on Friday and Saturday.

1826 Restaurant Adare

You can’t mention Limerick dining without having 1826 Restaurant Adare come to mind. Run by Chef Wade Murphy and his wife Elaine, the restaurant strives to serve the best locally sourced produce at reasonable prices. A Michelin Bib Gourmand award winner, 1826 Restaurant Adare is the ultimate spot for dining outside of Limerick city. 1826 Restaurant Adare is open Wednesdays to Saturdays from 6pm and from 3pm on Sundays.

PUBS/BARS

The Copper Room

For an evening of culinary delights accompanied by an impressive selection of beverages in an intimate and unique venue, look no further than The Copper Room. Visitors to The Copper Room are encouraged to taste a number of exquisite dishes and vintages in their underground caverns.

A number of international cheeses, patés and meats are on offer at The Copper Room, and be sure to enhance their flavour with an expertly chosen wine from the menu. The Copper Room is open Mondays to Thursdays from 5pm to late, 5pm to 1.30am on Fridays and Saturdays and from 5pm to late on Sundays.

Dolans Restaurant And Live Music Venue

First opened in 1994, Dolans is a multi-award-winning traditional Irish pub located on the Dock Road in Limerick. With great food options and live music every night, visitors can expect a fun and lively atmosphere in Dolans’ restaurant.
