Well known and loved for its incredible seafood, steaks and catchphrase ‘what’s for mains?’, Big Mike’s in Blackrock by Chef Gaz Smith is always an excellent choice for dinner in South Dublin. Their latest pop-up event guarantees a feast of Austrian flavours inspired by Gaz’s love of Austrian food (thanks to his wife, Rita).
Craic n Cracklin’ takes place this Thursday 20th March when Big Mike’s is bringing a Schweinsstelze feast to Blackrock for one night only.
What’s Schweinsstelze, you ask?
Picture this: a massive, slow-roasted pork shank, skin crisped to golden crackling perfection, meat so tender it barely clings to the bone, served with proper potato dumplings, Rita’s sauerkraut, a light jus from the stock, and a proper slap of punchy horseradish.

Tickets cost €35 per person and includes a large 1kg Free-Range Stelze Dinner and 2 ice cold beers in a frozen glass, as is tradition. There’s only a few left (available here via Eventbrite), so be quick if you want to join in on all the fun.
Big Mike’s says that the event will include a “couple of crisp, cold pints, maybe a Jäger, and they’ll throw on a bit of Austrian Schlager music to set the tone.”
