Liberty Signa Hotel Fethiye Turkey Melanie May

TheTaste Travel Guide to Turkey and The Liberty Signa Hotel By Melanie May

Liberty Signa Hotel in Fethiye might be your dream destination if you’re seeking the ultimate luxury escape in Turkey. Having recently experienced this resort firsthand, I can say it delivers a heady mix of elegance, comfort, and Turkish hospitality wrapped in a Mediterranean glow. Here’s why I think it offers a distinct experience that sets it apart from the usual luxury resorts and why Turkey is an unparalleled destination for high-end travel on a budget.

Turkey: A Timeless and Affordable Luxury Travel Destination

Turkey’s allure as a travel destination dates back centuries. From its pivotal role as a cultural and trade crossroads of the ancient world to its modern status as a hub of affordable luxury, the country offers something for every traveller. Turkey’s rich history, lush landscapes, and exceptional value set it apart today, especially for those seeking luxury.

Turkey’s appeal as a travel destination is deeply rooted in its long and storied history. It has been a focal point for civilisations for millennia – home to the Hittites, the ancient Greeks, and the Romans before serving as the heart of the Byzantine Empire and, later, the Ottoman Empire. For centuries, this historical significance has made Turkey a natural destination for visitors seeking adventure and cultural immersion.

As early as the 18th and 19th centuries, Turkey was an essential stop on the “Grand Tour,” a traditional journey by wealthy European young men to explore classical antiquity and develop a well-rounded cultural education. This historic role as a destination for aristocratic travellers helped build its reputation as a land of timeless beauty and luxury.

Fast forward to the present, and Turkey continues to be a top-tier destination for those seeking luxury without the high price tag typically associated with Mediterranean hotspots. The modern Turkish Riviera, particularly cities like Bodrum, Antalya, and Fethiye, offers travellers the opportunity to stay in 5-star resorts, enjoy gourmet dining, and relax at world-class spas – all for a fraction of the cost in Western European countries such as Italy, France, or Spain. One of the primary reasons Turkey can offer such value lies in its cost of living, which is significantly lower compared to much of Western Europe. This translates into more affordable accommodations, meals, and experiences without compromising quality.

Cultural Richness and Variety

Luxury in Turkey doesn’t just mean plush hotels and stunning beachfronts – it’s intertwined with the country’s deep cultural richness. Travellers get to experience a range of historical and natural wonders. You could spend a morning wandering the ancient streets of Ephesus, gazing at the remains of the Temple of Artemis (one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World), and by the afternoon, you might be enjoying a traditional hammam (Turkish bath) in a luxury spa.

Turkey’s culinary scene also reflects this rich blend of culture and luxury. Even outside the confines of a hotel like Liberty Signa, dining in Turkey offers gourmet experiences at affordable prices. From meze platters filled with fresh, local ingredients to indulgent baklava and artisanal coffees, Turkey’s food scene rivals any major European destination, yet the prices remain surprisingly modest.

The Luxury Spa and Wellness Tradition

Another hallmark of Turkey’s luxurious yet affordable travel appeal is its long-standing wellness tradition. The Turkish bath, or hammam, is an ancient ritual that dates back to Roman times. Today, visitors can experience this historic tradition in modern luxury spas. Many 5-star resorts, including Liberty Signa, offer updated hammam services alongside spa treatments like massages, facials, and hydrotherapy. These treatments are offered at a fraction of the price compared to similar services in other parts of the world, making Turkey an attractive wellness destination for those on a budget.

An Immersive Experience for Every Budget

What makes Turkey truly special is that luxury here is accessible. Whether you’re staying in an opulent resort or a charming boutique hotel, you’ll find that the Turkish approach to hospitality is warm, inclusive, and focused on making every guest feel pampered. The emphasis on locally sourced goods, traditional craftsmanship, and authentic experiences means that even budget-conscious travellers can indulge in a touch of luxury, from handwoven Turkish rugs to aromatic teas and spices at local markets.

Location: Fethiye

Situated on Turkey’s southwestern coast, Fethiye is a destination of sparkling coastlines, rich history, and adventure-filled landscapes. From Ireland, there are direct flights to Dalaman airport with both Are Lingus and Ryanair. Flight time is around 4.5 hours. The airport is 40km from the hotel, about 40 minutes by car or public bus.

The Liberty Signa Hotel has a superb beachfront location, so guests can immediately access turquoise waters and have a front-row seat to mesmerising Mediterranean sunsets. However, the hotel’s location offers much more than a perfect beach retreat – it’s a brilliant base for exploring the broader Fethiye region.

A Historical Journey

A short drive from the hotel will take you to the heart of Fethiye, where history buffs can marvel at the Lycian rock tombs. These ancient burial sites, carved into cliffs overlooking the town, are remnants of a civilisation that thrived in the region over 2,000 years ago. The most famous tomb, the Tomb of Amyntas, offers a glimpse into ancient Lycian culture and sweeping views of the town and coastline below.

If you want to learn more, the Fethiye Museum provides fascinating insights into the area’s past and houses artefacts from the Lycian, Roman, and Ottoman periods. For a truly immersive experience, visiting the ruins of Tlos, one of the oldest and most important Lycian cities makes for an excellent day trip. Here, you can explore crumbling ruins of tombs, city walls, and even a Roman amphitheatre set against a mountainous backdrop.

Natural Beauty and Adventure

Fethiye is also a hub for outdoor enthusiasts. One of the region’s most famous natural wonders is the Blue Lagoon at Ölüdeniz – a 40-minute drive from the hotel. This protected national park is a postcard-perfect stretch of coastline where the calm, azure waters meet a strip of soft white sand, making it an ideal spot for swimming, snorkelling, or simply unwinding.

For the more adventurous, Fethiye is one of the world’s best paragliding destinations. The surrounding hills and the towering Babadağ Mountain provide the perfect launch point for a thrilling paragliding experience, offering panoramic views of the coastline, the lagoon, and the surrounding mountains.

Water sports are also abundant, with activities like diving, kayaking, and sailing readily available. Divers can explore underwater caves, coral reefs, and the sunken remains of ancient ships. Sailing enthusiasts can embark on a boat tour to discover the countless hidden coves and islands that dot the coastline. I highly recommend a boat ride out to Haman Bay, aka Cleopatra’s Bath, where you can swim in the warm embrace of the tranquil emerald waters.

Day Trips to Explore Fethiye’s Surroundings

Some of Turkey’s most dramatic landscapes are just beyond Fethiye’s town limits. Butterfly Valley, accessible only by boat or a challenging hike, is a breathtaking canyon that opens into a secluded beach. Named for the many butterfly species in the valley, this haven is ideal for those looking to connect with nature in a serene environment.

Further inland, the stunning Saklıkent Gorge offers an entirely different adventure. As one of the longest gorges in Turkey, its steep, towering walls create a dramatic setting for hiking, canyoning, and cooling off in the icy river that flows through it. This day trip is a must for nature lovers, combining physical activity with some of Turkey’s most striking geological formations.

Liberty Hotels: A Legacy of Turkish Hospitality

The Liberty Hotels group has a long-standing reputation for providing exceptional hospitality, and the Liberty Signa is a shining example of this legacy. Founded with the vision of blending the best of Turkey’s traditional values with contemporary comforts, the hotel group has built a portfolio of properties known for their welcoming atmosphere, attention to detail, and emphasis on cultural authenticity.

The owners of Liberty Signa have successfully created an environment that appeals to modern luxury travellers while embracing the rich heritage of Turkish hospitality. Turkish culture places a high value on welcoming guests, which is evident in the personalised service provided by the hotel staff. The team at Liberty Signa, made up of local Turkish and international professionals, exemplifies this commitment to making every guest feel like family. This dedication to hospitality is deeply rooted in Turkish traditions, where the concept of “misafirperverlik” (hospitality) is central to daily life.

At the same time, the hotel’s design and amenities reflect a modern, luxurious outlook. The owners have infused Liberty Signa with elements of local culture, such as the Turkish souk within the hotel grounds, which brings a taste of traditional markets to guests who may not venture outside the resort. This cultural integration ensures that while the hotel provides all the comforts of a 5-star experience, it also offers a genuine connection to the region’s history and traditions.

This combination of luxury and cultural authenticity is what sets Liberty Signa apart. It showcases the owners’ vision of blending the old with the new and offering guests not just a stay but an immersive experience of Turkey’s vibrant culture.

The Vibe and Style

Liberty Signa’s design perfectly marries sleek, contemporary luxury with the rich textures and colours of traditional Turkish culture. From the moment you step into the vast lobby, you’re greeted by modern, minimalist aesthetics with clean lines, neutral tones, and expansive views of the Mediterranean.

Yet, despite the contemporary architecture, the hotel retains a warm and inviting atmosphere, thanks to subtle touches of Turkish tradition – hand-crafted décor, intricate tile-work, and small cultural nods embedded throughout the property. This thoughtful fusion of old and new creates a sophisticated yet relaxed ambience.

The Rooms

During my stay at Liberty Signa, I had the pleasure of staying in one of the Deluxe Suites with Panoramic View, a room that truly encapsulates the hotel’s ethos of blending comfort with grandeur. The suite was incredibly spacious, with a floor-to-ceiling window offering views of the Mediterranean Sea, perfect for catching the golden hues of sunrise and sunset. The décor was elegant but understated, featuring neutral tones accented by pops of colour that reflected the natural surroundings. The room was outfitted with a private terrace with a jacuzzi where I could unwind with a glass of bubbly. It felt like my own private slice of paradise.

The bathroom was equally luxurious, with a powerful rain shower, huge fluffy towels and robes, and the most toiletries I’ve ever seen in a hotel. Every detail, from the plush bedding to the modern amenities like a smart entertainment system, was designed to enhance comfort without sacrificing style.

For those seeking a different experience, Liberty Signa offers a wide variety of room types, ensuring that every guest finds something suited to their needs. The Superior Rooms with Sea Views provide a more affordable option without skimping on luxury, offering partial sea views and sleek modern furnishings. Families can opt for Superior Family Rooms, which feature sliding doors and separate spaces, allowing for privacy without losing the open, airy feel for which the hotel rooms are known. There are also Penthouse Family Suites with Sky Pools, where guests can enjoy a private infinity pool on their terrace, taking their luxury experience to a new level.

For those who prefer a closer connection to nature, Lake House Suites offer direct access to serene pool areas, perfect for families or couples looking for a more private retreat. Each room type is designed with attention to detail, ensuring a unique yet consistently high standard of comfort across the board.

Amenities

Staying at Liberty Signa feels like entering a world of endless possibilities, and the amenities truly go beyond the ordinary. One of the most striking features is the sheer number of swimming pools – 16 in total – making it easy to find your perfect spot, whether travelling with family, as a couple, or solo. I found myself gravitating towards the adults-only pools, where the atmosphere was calm, allowing me to soak up the sun in peaceful solitude. For families, however, the lively waterparks and dedicated kids’ pools are an absolute game-changer, offering hours of entertainment that keep children occupied and happy.

A personal tip: If you’re traveling without kids, I highly recommend the quiet, adults-only pools during the afternoon. Not only do you avoid the busier parts of the day, but the poolside service is impeccable, offering refreshing drinks and cold towels that make relaxation feel effortless. For those looking to mingle or meet other guests, the main pool has a livelier vibe, with music and occasional activities hosted by the resort’s entertainment team.

The Spa

One of the standout moments of my stay was the time spent in Liberty Signa’s luxurious spa. While I didn’t experience the traditional Turkish hammam myself, I was bowled over by the facilities, which include a hammam, sauna, steam room, and a massive indoor heated pool. The space is designed to melt away stress, and you can feel the calming atmosphere the moment you walk in.

I opted for a traditional Balinese massage performed by a therapist from Bali, and it was nothing short of incredible. The massage was a perfect combination of deep tissue and relaxation techniques, completely renewing me. The therapist’s expertise and attention to detail were evident, and it was clear that the spa places a high emphasis on authentic, high-quality treatments from around the world. If you appreciate massage therapies, I highly recommend the Balinese treatment for its soothing yet invigorating qualities.

The spa’s indoor pool is another highlight, with its heated waters and serene environment offering a perfect escape on cooler days or after a long day of exploring. After my massage, I spent some time in the sauna and steam room, which helped enhance my relaxation. It was the perfect antidote to the bustle of daily life, and I left the spa feeling refreshed and pampered.

Pro tip: Book your spa treatments early in your stay, as the most popular slots tend to fill up fast, especially during peak season. For a truly indulgent experience, consider booking a package that includes access to multiple treatments over several days – you’ll be thankful you did.

Fun for All Ages

Liberty Signa doesn’t fall short of things to do for those who prefer to stay active during their holiday. The beach volleyball games are lively and open to all guests, making it easy to jump in and meet new people. I also joined a yoga session in the morning, which took place on a platform with a stunning view of the sea – a truly serene way to start the day. The hotel offers other activities like Pilates, Zumba, and even water sports, catering to beginners and more experienced adventurers.

One feature I found particularly impressive was the fitness centre, which is open 24/7. The gym is well-equipped, with various machines, free weights, and space for stretching.

The kids club at Liberty Signa is a haven for children aged 4-12, offering a variety of fun and engaging activities to keep younger guests entertained throughout the day. From arts and crafts sessions to outdoor games and pool activities, the club is designed to provide a safe, creative space for kids to explore, socialise, and burn off energy. The staff ensure that every child is looked after while enjoying a tailored schedule of activities that suit different age groups and interests.

As the sun sets, Liberty Signa comes alive with night-time entertainment. After a full day of fun, families can gather to enjoy a range of evening shows and performances. From live music to themed performances and family-friendly stage shows, there’s something for everyone.

How to Make the Most of It

If I had one tip for future guests, it would be to take full advantage of the amenity scheduling. Liberty Signa offers a wide range of activities, but some require booking in advance, particularly the spa treatments and special fitness classes. Make sure to download the hotel’s app upon arrival, as it allows you to book spots in yoga classes, spa treatments, and even dinner reservations. This will save you time and ensure you get the most out of your stay.

Also, don’t hesitate to explore everything on offer. Even if you’re more inclined to relax, dipping into a water aerobics session or joining a volleyball match is a great way to break up a day of lounging by the pool. Trust me, mixing a bit of activity with downtime makes the relaxation feel even more rewarding!

Culinary Delights

As a food writer, I found the culinary scene at Liberty Signa one of the best parts of my stay. This isn’t your typical all-inclusive resort where options are limited or repetitive. The dining venues’ variety, quality, and creativity easily rival some of the best standalone restaurants I’ve experienced.

Among the hotel’s eight restaurants, my favourite was the Tatre Türk A’la Carte Restaurant, where I indulged in beautifully crafted Turkish dishes. Each meal offered a fresh twist on traditional Turkish flavours, such as their ice cream baklava – a standout dish combining crispy layers of baklava with rich, creamy Turkish ice cream, perfectly paired with a hot cup of Turkish tea. It quickly became my post-dinner ritual and an experience I highly recommend. Try to book a reservation around sunset for breathtaking views that add an extra touch of magic to your dining experience.

If you’re in the mood for something different, Liberty Signa also has an Indian, Asian fusion, seafood, and Italian a la carte restaurant, all designed to give you a wide range of international flavours. There is also two buffets and another a la carte restaurant serving comforting classics that is open 24 hours a day.

The one restaurant I visited every day without fail was the Bon Bon Patisserie. With its display of freshly baked pastries, house-made ice creams, and Turkish delights, this spot was heaven for anyone with a sweet tooth. I spent the afternoons here indulging in the wide variety of sweet delights – each beautifully crafted and bursting with flavour. All the desserts and ice creams served in the resort are made in-house, and so is all the bread.

For a more casual experience, the hotel also offers eight bars, including a lobby bar, pool bar, and even an Irish pub. These are perfect for grabbing a refreshing cocktail or a glass of wine in the evening. The selection of premium spirits, along with local and international beverages, ensures that there’s something for every taste. My personal favourite was the Ave Lobby Bar, where I enjoyed a quiet drink whilst doing my favourite activity, people-watching.

The Buffet Experience

Even the buffet experience at Liberty Signa is a cut above. With live cooking stations, you get a front-row seat to watch talented chefs prepare everything from omelettes to grilled meats and freshly folded boreks. The sensory experience of hearing the sizzle of meat, smelling the aroma of freshly baked bread, and seeing the chefs at work was one I savoured daily.

Each morning, I made it a point to visit the bakery station, where I could see bakers preparing the day’s pastries and bread. The scent of fresh croissants, Turkish simit, and other local treats wafting through the air made it impossible not to indulge. Pairing a still-warm pastry with Turkish coffee was the perfect way to start the day.

For dessert lovers, the dessert station was another highlight, featuring an array of handmade sweets, from delicate Turkish delights to cakes and ice creams that were not only delicious but also beautifully presented.

Making the Most of Dining at Liberty Signa

To make the most of the dining experience at Liberty Signa, I highly recommend making your reservations for the a la carte restaurants early. They tend to fill up quickly, especially during peak times. The Liberty app makes this process seamless and convenient. Also, don’t hesitate to ask for off-menu options or customisations. The staff is accommodating and happy to personalise dishes, which adds to the luxury experience.

After a week of eating in all the restaurants, I really feel that Liberty Signa’s culinary offerings go far beyond the norm for an all-inclusive resort. Whether enjoying the interactive live cooking stations or indulging in a multi-course meal at one of the a la carte venues, you’ll find yourself constantly surprised by every dish’s creativity, flavour, and attention to detail. If you’re a food lover, this hotel is a paradise.

Who Should Stay Here?

Liberty Signa is perfect for families and couples alike. Families will love the variety of pools, kids’ clubs, and family-friendly entertainment. Couples can revel in the serenity of the adults-only zones, the relaxing spa, and romantic dining experiences. The range of amenities ensures that there is something for everyone, regardless of age or interest.

That said, if you’re someone who prefers a quieter, boutique experience, or dislikes large resorts, you might feel overwhelmed by the sheer size and range of offerings at Liberty Signa. Those who seek solitude or ultra-exclusive, intimate settings may find this hotel too much, particularly in peak season.

Overall Opinion

Liberty Signa offers a superb blend of Turkish hospitality, high-end luxury, and a true sense of place. Whether you’re a foodie, a family, or someone simply looking to indulge in a bit of pampering, this hotel has it all. From the stunning natural beauty of Fethiye to the impeccable facilities and world-class dining options, it’s an ideal destination for those looking to experience luxury at an exceptional value.
