Here at TheTaste we are always looking for ways to make our readers happy, so we are delighted to say we have put together a fantastic and affordable Christmas Wine Box that will make the perfect gift, whether you are treating yourself or someone special this year
Marco, Wine Sommelier in Fade Street Social, has hand selected 6 bottles: a prosecco, two whites, a rosé and two reds, so regardless of what is going on the dinner table you will have the perfect bottle to accompany your dinner..
Prosecco: Torri de la Marca Prosecco, Prosecco, Italy
Marco says: The perfect prosecco, good consistent bubbles, fresh as a daisy with lovely orchard fruit flavours followed by a clean refreshing finish.
Sauvignon Blanc: Viu Manent Reserva Sauvignon Blanc, Colchagua Coast, Chile
Marco says: This is a great choice especially if you love New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc, loaded with tropical citrus flavours and a refreshing zippy finish. I was dreaming of fresh pasta with salmon and grilled asparagus with a creamy cheese sauce when I tasted it.
Fiano: Mandrarosa ‘Ciaca Bianco’ Fiano, Sicily, Italy
Marco says: Fiano is one of the most beautiful Italian grapes that is waiting to be discovered. This is a brilliant example with exotic citrus fruits like grapefruit, melon and asian pear with hints of jasmine and basil leaf. Try this Fiano with pasta and a tomato or cheese sauce or even just some green pesto.
Rose: Chateau de Nages ‘Liberty Nages’ Organic Rose, Rhone, France
Marco says: Gorgeous organic provencal style rose from the coastal area of Nimes at the bottom of the Rhone valley. A beautiful pale pink in the glass with light strawberry and raspberry fruits with a citrus cut. For me, food match this with some spicy prawns or even a coconut based thai vegetarian curry with some freshly chopped herbs on top when serving.
Cabernet Sauvignon: Viu Manent Cabernet Sauvignon Reserva, Colchagua Valley, Chile
Marco says: Cabernet is a great wine to have in your glass if you are having grilled meat like steak or lamb for dinner. This one from Viu Manent is ripe and juicy with loads of forest berries. Just the right amount of tannins with a clean freshness on the finish.
Tempranillo: Monasterio de las Vinas Tinto, Carinena, Spain
Marco says: A soft and supple wine with a juicy mouthfeel full of blueberries, raspberries and cherry flavours with a nice bit of spice on the finish. Have this with a pizza, some lamb or even a sunday roast with all the trimmings.
