The Irish restaurant scene is showing no signs of slowing down, with the booming sector seeing one new restaurant open after another.

While this is great news for food lovers far and wide, it can be difficult trying to narrow down your choices and figure out which of the country’s newest openings you want to visit and in what order.

We’ve taken a look at the best new openings since this time last year. With such a broad range of cuisine on offer, you’re sure to find something to suit your tastebuds and your budget. So get out your to-visit list and start adding the following restaurants to your culinary bucket list.

Glovers Alley

Glovers Alley by Andy McFadden was one of the most anticipated and highest profile restaurant openings in Dublin in quite some time. IT Tallaght graduate and Michelin awarded chef, Andy’s restaurant has been designed to wow. Glovers Alley offers fine-dining, with dishes including a Veal Rump, Spring Lamb Ratatouille, Suckling Pig and Scollop Ceviche all on offer, not to mention the desserts created by pastry chef Aoife Noonan.

Bonsai Bar

Dylan McGrath’s latest offering, Bonsai Bar, boasts creative cocktails along with an impressive bar bites menu that will whet the appetites of those searching for some authentic Japanese food. Indulge in the bar’s extensive Saké collection before moving on to some tempting cocktails, like the Kanto Old Fashioned and the Tokyo Fizz. Food-wise, Nashi Pear, Wagu Beef burger bites and Crab Claws will satisfy those hunger pangs.

A haven for vegan and vegetarian food lovers, Dublin’s newest healthy eatery is causing quite a stir among foodies in Ireland’s capital. The brainchild of Australian chef Mark Sent, Veginity on Dorset Street offers plant-based dishes that are bursting with flavour, including beetroot kibbeh with pineapple bulgur and confit garlic aioli, home baked ciabatta with fermented cashew coconut cream cheese, king oyster mushrooms, lemon gravy oven roasted peaches and many more innovative creations.

Located in the heart of Ireland’s oldest city, Everett’s is a new venture by Waterford native, Peter Everett. Opening its doors in April 2018, head chef Peter’s style combines Irish cooking with a relaxed and casual atmosphere. With parts of the restaurant’s dining room dating back to the 15th century, you can enjoy a true dining experience in the Viking city.

Tartare 5 Brunch Menu

Opened in September 2017, Tartare is the third restaurant by celebrated Irish Chef JP McMahon. Inspired by a trip to Copenhagen, JP and his partner Drigín Gaffey decided to embrace the move towards casual dining and open Tartare across from Michelin starred Aniar. Here you can indulge in the best of local Irish produce, including oysters, Dexter Beef Brisket, Tuna Tartare and much more.

Clanbrassil House

A small 25-seat casual restaurant, better to try your luck as a walk-in as it’s incredibly hard to get a booking at Clanbrassil House. Owned and run by Chef Barry FitzGerald and his partner Claremarie Thomas, the restaurant is headed up in the kitchen by Chef Gráinne O’Keeffe and there’s something on the menu to suit all palates. Expect to dine on plates of organic beets with Toonsbridge ricotta and walnut butter, onglet steak with bone marrow and chimichurri, BBQ cauliflower, Connemara oysters and much more.

Ichi Ichigo

Ichigo Ichie is Takashi Miyazaki’s incredible new dining experience. Located in Cork, the restaurant is anchored in Irish produce, but represents Takashi’s own childhood and imagination. The creative Japanese dishes on offer in this must-visit restaurant offer an unforgettable once-in-a-lifetime experience. Brought back to life by Chef Danni Barry’s Michelin quality dining, Clenaghans Restaurant is a cosy stone building in Northern Ireland, offering incredible food prepared by utilising the very best of local ingredients. Opened in October 2017, Host in Ranelagh brings a taste of the London dining scene to Dublin. The Ivy

The opening of The Ivy Dawson Street was one of the most highly anticipated new openings in Dublin this year. Open only since the end of July, visitors to the all-day brasserie can expect “effortless glamour for every occasion”, with breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea, brunch and dinner all on offer. Beef & Lobster Restaurant Dublin

Beef & Lobster Malahide is the newest restaurant in Chef Oliver Dunne’s collection of Dublin eateries, which also includes Bon Appetit, Cleaver East and the original Beef & Lobster. Offering the same fare as the popular city centre venue, Beef & Lobster offers delicious bottomless brunch, lunch and dinner options. Upstairs at Wood & Bell

Upstairs at Wood & Bell is the brainchild of former Irish rugby international and Killaloe native, Keith Wood, and his business partner Malcolm Bell. The fine-dining ‘Upstairs’ serves French-inspired (with an Irish Twist) food in a large and airy dining room. The kitchen is headed up by Executive Chef Paddy Collins who has developed a menu with locally-sourced ingredients at the fore, with dishes including Sous-Vide Pork Belly, Apple Glazed Pork Chop and Torched and Salted Cod.
