Mowgli Team Up With Samsú for a Forest Feast at Ballinlough Castle

To celebrate the launch of Your Pocket Guide to Outdoor Cooking, Mowgli, in partnership with Samsú Cabins, are hosting an evening under the trees on Saturday, September 13th at Ballinlough Castle, Co. Westmeath.

As part of the ongoing Mowgli series of shared-table dinners that showcase great produce and seasonal cooking, chef Tom Hayes invites us to rediscover the magic of eating outdoors.

Influenced by his time at Ballymaloe Cookery School, followed by a stint at River Cottage, Tom Hayes founded Mowgli to connect people to the source of their food through unique culinary events—long-table dinners where uncomplicated, produce-led cooking is the focus.

The Mowgli communal dinners are driven by a produce‑first ethos and present seasonal, rustic menus served against beautiful backdrops

The inspiration for the Pocket Guide cookbooklet stemmed from a shared desire to inspire people to slow down and get outdoors. Designed to accompany you on your next nature adventure, it’s premised on simple one-pot recipes that encourage seasonal cooking over fire.

With contributions from several Irish chefs, it offers tools, ideas, and recipes that let great produce sing through simple, honest cooking.

A Four-Course Outdoor Feast in the Castle Grounds

The event will commence at 5pm and run until 9.30pm. A sample menu includes grilled flatbreads, Boyne Valley panzanella with summer herbs, spatchcock chicken with aioli and green beans, grilled summer squash and labneh, and new potatoes blistered over coals. To complete the feast guests will enjoy an intriguing campfire dessert.

Enjoy an evening of cooking over fire, making new friends, and drinking good wine surrounded by ancient woodland, lakes, and meadows.

Tickets are now available to buy here   and include the four-course meal and a complimentary copy of the book. Wines on the night will be poured by natural wine aficionado Brian O’Connor of Brian’s Wines.
