On the rugged North Antrim coast, where a legacy of whiskey-making meets the restless spirit of the sea, Bushmills Irish Whiskey continues to forge new paths. The latest chapter unfolds with the release of an exceptional single malt: the Bushmills 14 Year Old, finished in rare Malaga casks brimming with exotic fruitiness.

This captivating new single malt expands the legendary distillery’s single malt portfolio, showcasing a thirst for innovation and exceptional flavour experiences.

Steeped in the mastery of sherry cask influence, the core Bushmills range – including the 10, 16, and 21 Year Old expressions – offers a familiar depth and warmth. Yet, the 14 Year Old embarks on a captivating and unmistakably different journey.

After a meticulous ageing process in bourbon barrels, it experiences the transformative touch of Malaga oak casks seasoned with sweet wine made from the ancient Muscat of Alexandria grape.

This new single malt marks a particular milestone for master blender Alex Thomas who is dedicated to exciting and delighting whiskey enthusiasts with new expressions that epitomise Bushmills’ innovative and pioneering spirit.

“The team here at Bushmills has always had a restless spirit. We’ve an insatiable curiosity when it comes to whiskey innovation. I really wanted to step out of my comfort zone and create an exciting taste experience for everyone – something a bit unexpected that’s unlike any other expression in our core range,” Alex explains.

The result? A whiskey bursting with aromas of sweet honey, vanilla, and mandarin orange intertwined with warm spice. On the palate, a delightful union of mango, pineapple, and apricot unfolds, with hints of cinnamon, vanilla, and warm caramel. This culminates in a long, crisp, and comforting finish – a testament to the time-honoured craft and innovation synonymous with Bushmills. It is no surprise this new release is already proving popular with discerning whiskey connoisseurs.

Highlighting the incredible craftsmanship of the new whiskey, Alex proudly notes that the Spanish fortified wine was patiently left to soak deep into the grain of the oak barrels for four to five years, seasoning the wood with a symphony of exotic fruit balanced with a delicate hint of cinnamon and ginger spices. The casks were then sent to the Old Bushmills Distillery just three days after being emptied to ensure optimal freshness and fragrance.

Radiating a chestnut gold hue and an intriguingly rich and smooth character, Alex is confident the warm, mellow taste and fresh, fruity notes of the 14 Year Old will intrigue wine lovers, welcome fledgling whiskey drinkers, and excite whiskey’s most passionate flavour explorers alike.

Alex adds: “I’ve been on the journey, so I know the 14 Years Old’s exceptional quality is undeniable. I also have a lot of experience with Muscat of Alexandria, the grape variety carefully chosen to produce the Malaga wine we use to season our oak barrels. Wine lovers will know this is one of the oldest grapes in the world and produces incredible flavour profiles. I really feel this is a whiskey for everyone.”

For over 400 years, Bushmills has been pursuing unrushed perfection, establishing the greatest reserve of aged single malt Irish whiskey in the world. This unparalleled access to unique casks and rich flavours offers the freedom of experimentation that has undoubtedly led to this latest masterpiece.

Bushmills 14 Year Old invites whiskey enthusiasts and curious newcomers alike to discover an unmistakably different expression of this iconic brand. Find it across the island of Ireland (€70 / £60) and let the adventure begin.
