Misunderstood Heron – a popular seasonal food truck open since 2017 at Killary Fjord in Connemara Co. Galway – has escaped closure by relocating to Co.Mayo.
The move comes after a planning decision by Galway County Council forced the food truck to cease operating at its original location, which caused an outcry of support from the local community as well as those within the Irish hospitality industry.
Misunderstood Heron will spend the summer season at P.Dans’ The BigStyle Lodge, near Louisburgh, located 50 minutes from its Killary Fjord location

They broke the good news on social media today, saying “join us for laid-back evenings with incredible food, wine, and pints on our sunny terrace—or stick around for epic sunsets with unbeatable views over the bay. The pop-up is set right in front of The Big Dipper, Ireland’s most scenic sauna and hot tub, making it the perfect post-swim or surf spot (or just a chill evening out.”
Named ‘one of the coolest food trucks in the world’ by Lonely Planet, Misunderstood Heron is known for its creative & constantly evolving menu with a focus on seasonal, local Irish producers.
Signature dishes include fresh mussels from Killary Harbor, and Connemara pasties with various fillings such as chorizo & tomato, roast ham & farmhouse cheddar, mushrooms & wild garlic, smoked haddock & parsley.
