Howth, – famous for its seafood bars and restaurants – has created a festival celebrating three of our favourite things: Guinness, oysters, and music. It’s safe to say we’re looking forward to the new Howth Guinness Oyster and Music Festival next weekend.
All Shucked Up Howth takes place in various locations around Howth village from Friday Feb 28th – Sunday March 2nd.
This vibrant event showcases the freshest local oysters, perfectly paired with the iconic taste of Guinness.
The Abbey Tavern will host an National Qualifier Oyster Shucking Competition, there will be Roaming Oyster Shuckers, a Best Dressed Oyster competition and an Oyster Shucking Masterclass. Restaurants and bars alike will serve the best tasting oysters and will all take part in the best dressed oyster competition.
There’s an oyster shucking masterclass with Sarah Browne of Oysome

The masterclass will include oysters from three different farms and the two species of oysters that are grown in Ireland, and participants will be expertly guided through the process of how to properly shuck and taste oysters & why it matters.
Sarah will demonstrate how to prepare basic accompaniments which will enhance the tasting rather than overpower it.Guests go home with a tasting pack to continue their experience at home.
Pack includes OMG tasting wheel, Oysome apron, taste the Atlantic oyster knife & notes on how to have the best experience when buying, storing, shucking and tasting Irish oysters.
There’s also a guided coastal foraging walk
Curious about foraging? As part of the festival there will be a guided walk of the beach and Howth harbour. You will learn all about edible coastal plants, what culinary and medicinal benefits they hold. Host Nicole will teach you how to identity our native and non-native coastal plants.
