World of Coffee Arrives in Dublin from the 23rd to the 25th of June
World of Coffee arrives in Dublin from the 23rd to the 25th of June and it is a comprehensive mix of all things coffee: Extraordinary baristas, educational activities, tastings, shopping (over 200 suppliers and 35 micro-roasters) and partying. The event is organised by the Speciality Coffee Association of Europe (SCAE), and this will be its 16th edition and the first time it’s done in Ireland.
The RDS expects to receive over 10,000 visitors over the duration of the event and it is expected to be the biggest World of Coffee so far. Among the highlights of the event there is the World Barista Competition and World Brewers Cup, with more than 100 competitors from over 60 countries fighting to be the best in the world. The competition starts on 22nd with the two winners announced on Saturday 25th.
Those wishing to discover and revisit great coffee spots in town can check the Ambassadors’ Club, a rigorously selected list of 30 of the best cafes, restaurants, hotels and bars for coffee. The Ambassador Club members are located all over the city of Dublin so log on to worldofcoffee-dublin.com to visit your nearest member.
Two parties will complement the main event, the Welcome Reception in Dublin’s Mansion House, on Wedensday 22nd and the SCAE Party is on the following evening in the Guinness Storehouse – these parties are said to be legendary so booking is highly recommended.
Those aware of the importance of ethically sourced coffee can do their bit at the Java Jog, which brings people together to raise money and awareness for women in the coffee industry. More than $65,000 have been raised at this event for women’s projects in Congo and Ethiopia. This year the JavaJog will take place on Sandymount Strand at 8:30 am on Saturday the 25th of June. The event coincides with the biggest coffee show ever to happen in Dublin, the World of Coffee and you can find out more at javajog.org
Besides these, the occasion will feature the SCAE Excellence Awards, many seminars on the business and the science side of coffee and a Sustainability Forum, held for the first time.
