Marc Kreydenweiss Kritt Pinot Blanc 2014 – Wine of the Week from O’Briens

There are many ways to get a party started. Play upbeat music, make sure all guests have been introduced to each other and, after all that effort you put into getting everyone together, relax and let food and drink do their magic.

And just as the bites that will mark the beginning of a wonderful night are not the same as the sweet ones that tend to end it, the ideal wines to get a crowd in party mode are also a particular type: light enough to awaken the appetite without extinguishing it, flavourful but not overwhelming and with something that stands out and that makes them a good talking point.

Wine of the Week from O'Briens: Marc Kreydenweiss Kritt Pinot Blanc 2014Marc Kreydenweiss Kritt Pinot Blanc 2014 ticks all the boxes. This Alsatian treat is just like a great party host, it lets its personality shine but never imposes itself.

It comes from a winery with only 13.5 hectares in Andlau, in the area called Piemont des Vosges. It’s organic and suitable for vegans, so even your most strict guests will be able to enjoy it.

Besides that, it’s made according to biodynamic principles, a lifestyle completely adopted by the winemaking family and in which cosmic influences are taking into account and things such as natural remedies, biodiversity and the phases of the moon play key roles in the result… Whether you believe in this or not, it’s certainly an ice breaker.

The wine itself is delicate and with a lovely balance between green apple, citrus fruits and minerality, very pleasant aromas of white lilies reward those who swirl enthusiastically.

On the palate, a slightly bee-waxy feeling adds some texture to its medium body. Its acidity is moderate and so is its finish, in which the hive comes back with a fainty drop of honey.

It’s a great party starter -from its dreamy label to its French garden feeling- one that both your adventurous friends and your Pinot Grigio sipping pals can agree to love.

This wine is well paired with Pan-Fried Scallops with Fried Egg, Brioche, Mushrooms and Beurre Blanc or with a tasty crispy hake in Beer Batter with Pea and Pancetta Salad.

Marc Kreydenweiss Kritt Pinot Blanc 2014 is available at O’Briens Wines at €16.95 (on offer from €18.95).
