Wine of the Week – Gérard Bertrand H de l’Hospitalet Malbec Now €10 by Suzi Redmond
A quality wine from one of my favourite producers, Gérard Bertrand, a multi-award winning one too. Grown on the foothills Pyranees in their Estate’s cool coastal vineyards.
This wine has a beautiful nose with aromas of deep overripe black fruits, dark chocolate, leather and violets.
On the palate this wine is juicy with a lovely earthy edge. All the aromas appear on the palate with the addition of coffee beans. This wine has also received a wonderful oak treatment.
According to my notebook this wine is ‘Pure loveliness’. I opened it on a Saturday evening and tried it again on a Monday and it was still great. I would decant it 30 minutes before you want it, longer if you want the fruit spice to really show. This will work well solo but will also pair with red meat.
