Planning to Travel in The Next Few Days – Here’s What You Need to Know (Updated)

We’ve all been following Storm Emma and The Beast From The East as its been making its icy way over to Ireland. Now that it has arrived and the country has been put on red alert, the most important thing is to stay safe.

This is especially important if you’re planning to travel in the next few days. With many flights cancelled and delayed, here are the essentials of what you need to know.

While the snow is continually being cleared in a bid to offer safe travel conditions, passengers are being advised to check with their airlines throughout the day.

Aer Lingus has said: “Our Dublin flight schedule for Thurs 01 March will be heavily affected by deteriorating weather, leading to delays and cancellations, particulary in the afternoon and evening. Please check live flight information before traveling to the airport.”

An updated list of cancellations and flight disruptions for Aer Lingus can be found here.

Aer Lingus had previously commented: “Guests who have bookings on Aer Lingus flights from Wednesday 28th February to Friday 2nd March and who wish to postpone their travel to a later date, within 7 days of their original travel date, may also rebook free-of-charge using our online facilities.”

In their latest update, Ryanair has stated that “Due to continuing adverse weather conditions, Ryanair expects further flight delays and cancellations and we recommend customers check the status of their flight before making their way to the airport.”

Meanwhile, Cork Airport was operational on Wednesday, with only minor delays: “CorkAirport is fully operational for all flights. Please be advised that some flights will be subject to delays and possible cancellations due to the severe weather, so please check with your airline for the latest status of your specific flight before traveling to the airport.”

However, this morning, the airport was closed until 10am in a bid to clear snow and enable safe travel for passengers. The latest from Cork is that all remaining Aer Lingus flights have been cancelled from the airport.

Meanwhile, many of today and tomorrow’s Irish Ferries services have been cancelled due to the weather, with the company stating:

“Irish Ferries is advising customers intending to travel by ferry during the forthcoming week to be mindful of weather forecasts, to allow ample time to travel safely to their port of departure, make note of all important telephone numbers they might require and to monitor ferry company websites for latest information about sailing times.”
