A One-Stop Venue for a Fantastic Night Out – Tramline Review

We all have our go-to places: the relaxed bar to chill with a glass of wine, the cool pub for pizza and pints; the sleek nightclub worth dressing up for. What if I told you that the recently opened Tramline combines these venues into one?

This multi-area, multi-purpose place has been open for a few weeks and after being intrigued by its industrial style entrance of neon yellow and steel on a few occasions, I decided to check it out on a Thursday night, or as I like to call them, Friday’s eve.

Going down the stairs, the bold mix of metal and electricity, the exposed ceiling and the deliberate rough edges made me think this would be a place where Charlize Theron’s Cold War spy diva a.k.a. Atomic Blonde could be seen partying back in Berlin.

While you could easily order the femme fatale’s drink of choice (premium vodka on ice) the variety of gins and Irish whiskeys on sight made me absurdly thankful this is not 1989.

A concise but appropriate selection of wines and a tap with a fair balance of mainstream and craft beers complements the drinking alternatives. Yes, they’ve Guinness and Heineken, but they also pour Franciscan Well and Irishtown Brewing’s Dublin Blonde so your hop-head friends won’t miss their crafty brews.

Before the dance floor was opened for the night, the smaller bar next to it was already filled with the buzz of anticipation. The dark and inviting space is furnished with contemporary and comfortable dark wood and leather seats and intimate, dim lightning.

You can enjoy the same tunes played on the other side at a milder volume and thanks to the wide glass panel separating both sides, you can watch the main room and choose the perfect time to make your big entrance into the nightclub area.

Need some fuel before hitting the floor? They’ve a copper pizza oven so there’ll be no lack of a bite.

Walk through the looking glass and you’ll join the main room, where a state of the art stage gives the spotlight to DJs, musicians and other performers that make up their eclectic line up.

Two more bars on this side ensure no one stays thirsty and a spacious central area with a good few cosier corner tables to sit and sip will give you just the level of privacy your night out requires.

Did I mention that it’s located exactly in front of the Hawkins Street Luas Cross City stop which is expected to open very soon? Very handy to get there without a taxi or a car, at least on your way in, as the venue closes late and the atmosphere keeps getting better and better after midnight.

Four Gin & Tonics mixed with Hendrick’s Gin and Fever Tree premium tonic water were a reasonable €36 or €9 each.
