The last few months have been very active for openings. The restaurant scene has seen several new venues and the bar trade has also welcomed a few additions, for example, trad bar Piper’s Corner in Marlborough Street, night club newcomer Tramline and a fresh pub in Camden Street Jimmy Rabbitte’s.

Now it’s turn for Dame Street, as The Underground will open its doors besides Peader Kearney’s Pub next September.

The venue will focus on showcasing up and coming musical acts and it will be modelled on a namesake venue which existed in the city back in the eighties. The original Underground brings memories of vibrant gigs and loud nights, it was easy to miss it if you passed by it, if it wasn’t for the London Underground logo letting those in the know recognise it.

No VIP area, no fancy decor and an in-your-face attitude, it was a place where music really had the center stage and even at the height of its popularity, The Underground Bar would still lend its spotlight to newcomers, offering an alternative to what was out there.

As reported by music site Nialler9, Dave Judge, of Abner Brown’s/Canalaphonic is behind the soon to open 120-capacity venue and the ethos of the place includes supporting emerging artists by offering them a stage to start out.

We are eager to see what new talent takes over. While The Underground will be a fully new bar, it will channel the spirit of the venue which inspired it. With Dublin’s nightlife become more active and varied, we can’t but celebrate a new alternative for music lovers in town.
