Irish Cider & Food Day (#IrishCiderFoodDay) is Great Irish Beverage’s new one-day celebration of Irish ciders and Irish food. It is taking place in bars, hotels and restaurants throughout the island on Thursday 3rd September 2015, when participating venues will pair an Irish craft cider of their choosing with an Irish food dish of their creation.
With promotional offers starting at just €5 for cider and food pairings (for a starter portion of pork belly with cider-braised red onions, herb rosti and pork crackling together with a glass of Falling Apple Cider in Dublin’s 57 The Headline) and delicious pairings including Ely Bar & Brasserie’s Ely Banger & Mash: Organic Burren pork sausage, mash, apple &wholegrain mustard cream, served with Craigies Cider Ballyhook Flyer 2014 (€17.95 for the pairing, which is usually €22.95) or if your a fan of something a little more sparkling, House on Dublin’s Leeson St. have an imaginative pairing of House shellfish ceviche with prawns, mussels and fresh squid marinated in lime, orange and coriander with peppers, red onion, garlic and chilli, served with Stonewell Esterre Sparkling Prestige €9 and featuring venues as far apart as counties Cork, Clare, Dublin, Leitrim and Waterford, there really is something here for everyone.
Irish Cider & Food Day aims to showcase the huge variety of excellent Irish ciders on the market today. By pairing Irish cider with great local food, they also hope to prove the surprising food-friendliness of what is after all the closest thing to Irish wine.
