Tesco Launches Reindeer Food in Aid of Temple Street

Tesco stores across Ireland will be bringing a little magic to their customers this December by hosting a Reindeer Food Fundraiser in aid of their Charity partner, Temple Street across the weekend of December 2nd – 4th.

Reindeer food is a magical mixture of oats and glitter that can be spread on the lawn to help guide reindeers to your home on Christmas Eve. Across Friday 2nd, Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th December, colleagues in all 148 Tesco stores countrywide will be selling pouches of reindeer food for just €2, with the aim of raising €100,000 to help buy life-saving medical equipment for the children’s hospital.

In 2015 Tesco stores raised over €80,000 for Temple Street Children’s Hospital by selling magical reindeer food. This money helped to purchase an Amino Acid Analyser for the hospital, which helps to identify rare genetic disorders. This year the campaign is set to be bigger and better with the target of raising €100,000. Also new this year, Irish producer and Tesco supplier Flahavan’s has kindly donated the oats for our reindeer food.

All money raised from this year’s fundraising event will pay for the replacement of an Echo Machine for the Cardiology Department at Temple Street. In 2015 alone, 1534 children required an ECHO assessment in Temple Street putting the only Echo Machine, which is 5 years old, under great pressure. A new Echo machine is essential to allow the continued delivery of reliable ECHO assessments to both in-patients and out-patients attending the hospital.

Emma Barrett, Temple Street Foundation said: “Christmas really is a magical time of year and the reindeer food fundraiser is a fantastic way to spread Christmas cheer for kids and patients alike. Please pop down to your local Tesco store on the 2nd, 3rd or 4th of December and join in the merriment, every €2 really does go such a long way toward helping our little heroes!”

The Reindeer Food Fundraiser will be taking place in Tesco Ireland’s 148 stores across the weekend of Friday 2nd of December to Sunday 4th December – see your local store for details of the date and times of their events.
