Spanish Brewer Hijos de Rivera to Acquire 32% of Carlow Brewing Company

Carlow Brewing Company, the Irish brewer behind the popular range of craft beers O’Haras, has announced it has secured an investment by Spanish brewer Hijos de Rivera, a family-owned company that will acquire 32% of their Bagenalstown based operation.

Hijos de Rivera is better known for their popular Estrella Galicia lager. Both companies have developed a relationship over the last two years, when Hijos de Rivera became O’Haras distributor in Spain. Now the partnership will see them pushing O’Haras across other European markets and south America. The figures of the agreement haven’t been disclosed.

Seamus O’Hara, Carlow Brewing Company chief executive, said: “This gives me great confidence they can make a significant contribution to the future success of Carlow Brewing Company, especially in helping us develop new and existing export markets for our beer and cider.”

The founders of Carlow Brewing Company will retain control in the majority shareholding and leadership of the company while benefiting from the Spanish brewer expertise and wide distribution channels.
