Discover New Zealand with Astrolabe’s Winemaker Simon Waghorn this 21st of September

New Zealand has earned the respect of wine lovers all over the world in a relatively short period of time. This New World region might be known for its generously aromatic Sauvignon Blanc, but there’s more to it worth discovering. O’Briens Wine is delighted to host prestigious winemaker Simon Waghorn, owner of Astrolabe winery and known as one of the most experienced grape-grower winemakers in Marlborough, New Zealand.

He will explore his range including Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir while giving oenophiles the inside track from Marlborough. Simon pioneers multi-site vineyard Sauvignon Blanc, and he works to highlight how each individual Sauvignon site adds nuanced character and complexity to his award-winning range.

Guests will taste his wines and have the opportunity to ask Simon Waghorn questions and to gain a better understanding of New Zealand.

When: Thursday September 21st at 7:00 pm

ABOUT ASTROLABE

“When winemaker Simon Waghorn created his own brand, he chose the name Astrolabe because of historic ties with Marlborough and connotations of exploration and discovery. An astrolabe is an ancient instrument of navigation that measures the altitude of the stars, and also the name of an early sailing ship exploring the Marlborough coast.

All Simon’s skill and experience combine to capture the essence of Marlborough in wines of purity, focus and elegance. Simon is fascinated by the unique qualities of the Awatere Valley and Kekerengu Coast sub-regions, whether bottled alone, or blended as part of the Marlborough classic.”
