Sheen Falls Lodge Celebrates 25 Years in Business

Sheen Falls Lodge is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, having opened its doors to the first guests in April 1991.

There was great excitement when it was announced that a new luxury hotel was to be developed beside the Sheen River in Kenmare. The existing house dated back to 1890 and the hotel built on the country lodge theme while also developing 300 acres around the estate.

As well as being a huge boost for tourism in Kenmare, the hotel development project brought much needed employment to the local area. Following a year’s construction, the hotel opened its doors in April 1991 and many of the original team still work in the Lodge including Timmy Palmer, who has been welcoming guests from that very first day along with night porter Anthony McGuinness.

Another stalwart is Jim Kiely, resident pianist, who has been entertaining guests and staff alike with soothing dinner music and rousing bar tunes since the beginning.

To coincide with this milestone anniversary, Sheen Falls have just completed an extensive refurbishment programme in their guest bedrooms. The newly styled rooms are spacious, bright and warm and feature a beautiful mix of Irish tweeds, luxuriant velvets and quirky artwork from local artist Christine Bowen.

General Manager Seamus Crotty attributes the success of the hotel to the dedicated team of staff and the continued support of loyal guests, many of whom have been visiting since the early days: “I would like to take this opportunity to thank our guests for their support over the last 25 years and we hope to provide the unique Sheen Falls experience for many years to come.

To celebrate their 25 years, Sheen Falls are offering guests a 25% discount on their visit to the Lodge. For more details on this offer, please call 064 664 1600, visit our website, or email

They are also giving away an incredible prize: a two night retreat in the Falls Master Suite with spa treatments and candlelit dinner for two. Simply visit the Sheen Falls competition page and fill in your details.
