Romeo & Juliet Passimento White 2015 – Wine of the Week from O’Briens

Italy has always been a source for romantic inspiration… Think gondola rides in Venice, joyfully sharing a gelato in Rome or having an intimate picnic on a sunny afternoon in a beautiful park in Tuscany. With Valentine’s Day getting closer, we decided to give a nod to the country’s allure and embrace the amore.

Romeo & Juliet Passimento White 2015 - Wine of the Week from O'BriensRomeo & Juliet Passimento White 2015 embodies everything Valentine’s is about. Dedicated to Verona, this off-dry white from the Veneto shares one of the world’s most famous love stories, the tale of Giulietta e Romeo, who in fact didn’t live too far from the vineyard in the north of Italy.

At a moderate 13%, the delicate sweetness brought to the wine by the use of a portion of partially dried Garganega grapes feels like a warm welcome to what soon becomes a seductive blend of limoncello, eldelflower and poached pears.

A kiss between the juice and the grape’s skins -ok, not a kiss, maceration- gives the wine a fuller body and a pleasant juiciness. A hug of French oak -or maturation, for the cynics- adds to its complexity and grants us with a very subtle nutty character. What to serve it with? Well, besides passion, a mild flavoured Italian-inspired dishes such as a seafood risotto,

Romeo & Juliet Passimento White 2015 is available at O’Briens Wine at €17.95.

There is a red version of Romeo & Juliet Passimento, and you can get a gift box with both, which will make a fabulous gift to share, specially accompanied with a home cooked dinner.
