The Shelbourne Hotel is delighted to host an exclusive Wine Geese –Bordeaux and Beyond dinner on Wednesday October 11th in The Saddle Room at The Shelbourne Hotel. Featuring a five course menu paired with selected wines by the Irish Wine Geese from Bordeaux and beyond – Irish-connected wine makers from around the globe, as selected by Hotel Sommelier Nisea Doddy and the team of experts at James Nicholson Wine Merchant.

 

Jane Boyce, Fine Wine Manager at JN Wine will introduce each of the selected wines and courses at the Wine Geese –Bordeaux and Beyond dinner. The wines have been carefully selected to complement each course perfectly will all have an unique Irish connection – Jane will introduce every glass, chosen with the fascinating narrative of each estate’s history and links with this country in mind.

 

Executive Chef Garry Hughes has designed the dinner menu around the home counties of the ancestors of the individual wine estates, so after detailed research he has sourced fine Irish ingredients to create a tribute to each wine maker in every course.

 

With a menu featuring house cured Kenmare salmon with pickled ginger and cucumber, confit duck terrine, risotto of Longueville House cep, slow braised Charleville ox cheek with porcini mushroom, chocolate fondant and the chef’s selection of petit fours, the key ingredient of each dish has been carefully chosen to highlight an ancestral homeland of each individual winemaker.

 

A unique and indulgent experience, offering the opportunity to taste, side by side, the finest wines created by Irish connected wineries and The Saddle Room’s superb complementary menu, the evening will take place on Wednesday October 11th and it will begin with a reception in the Adams Suite at 6.30 p.m. followed by dinner at 7.00 p.m. with tickets priced at €89 per person.

About the Wine Geese

Ireland’s Wine Geese is derived from the flight of the Wild Geese. The expression echoes that of the waves of Irish soldiers that fled to France at the end of the 17th century.

 

Many of them and their immediate descendants flourished as merchants, traders and later owning properties, estates and vineyards around the city’s port of Bordeaux and other prestigious French wine regions.

About Jane Boyce MW

 

Before joining James Nicholson Wine Merchant in 2012 as Fine Wine Manager, Jane Boyce, MW was an independent Wine Consultant and freelance wine writer.

 

In 2000 she became Ireland’s first female Master of Wine and is still the only person to hold the qualification in Northern Ireland. She lectures widely on food and wine and runs her own popular wine courses at an art gallery close to her home. She was also wine consultant to Ross’s Auction house in Belfast and has organised several highly successful wine auctions for them.

 

She has been adjudicator and key judge for the Irish Wine Show over the years and last year was on the Bordeaux panel for the Decanter World Wine Awards in London. Her International experience includes judging in Australia, South Africa, Italy and France.

– Each ticket is for a 5 course tasting menu with wine pairings for one person.
– As this is a live event, no refunds will be given following the event.
